Tulane Football’s Marshall Wadleigh Earns NFF Hampshire Society Honor

National Football Foundation Release

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane football senior tight end Marshall Wadleigh was honored today by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) as one of a record-high 1,089 members of the 2017 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.

A former walk-on who received a scholarship for his senior season, Wadleigh played in 49 career games including all 12 games this past season. He saw most of his game action on special teams on both the kickoff and kickoff return teams, in addition to seeing time at tight end. For his career, the Pear River, La., native returned three kickoffs for 21 yards, rushed twice for 26 yards and recorded 16 tackles (15 solo and one assist).

Off the field, the Business Finance major maintained a 4.0 grade point average all four years. He was recognized as a member of the Dean’s List and Tulane Athletics’ 3.0 Club this fall. He serves as the football representative on the Green Wave’s student-athlete advisory committee and is very with various community service initiatives.

The 1,089 players from 297 schools who qualified for membership in the NFF Hampshire Society’s 11th year set new single-year records in the history of the program. The 1,089 players eclipsed the previous record of 882 honorees in 2016. The 297 schools with members breaks the previous record of 280 in both 2015 and 2016.

The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF’s National Scholar-Athlete program by greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year. The program further strengthens the organization’s leadership role in encouraging academic performance by the student-athletes who play football at the 777 colleges and universities with football programs nationwide. The initiative has honored 7,723 student-athletes since its inception and the program has experienced growth every year in either members or school participation since its launch in 2007.
