St. Amant Defeats Archrival East Ascension 23-8 to Continue Undefeated Season

Before the two Ascension Parish rivals faced off against each other in one of the biggest rivalry games in the state of Louisiana, East Ascension High School honored Spartans and LSU legend Glenn Dorsey with retiring his jersey, but the St. Amant Gators spoiled the Spartans celebration with a 23-8 win this past Friday night.

The Gators jumped out to a 17-0 lead with many thanks to Caleb Ricks, who returned an interception for a touchdown and a one-yard touchdown from Kyron Craft after a 67-yard scoring drive.

Ricks led the defense that frustrated the Spartans’ offense the entire night with two interceptions. In the second half, the Gators added another score from Cooper Babin in the fourth quarter to make the lead insurmountable for the Spartans to overcome.

Coming up, the undefeated Gators, led by head coach David Oliver, will look to continue their undefeated season against Denham Springs.

Meanwhile, the East Ascension Spartans, led by head coach Darnell Lee, are coming off arguably the toughest non-district schedule in the state, and will look to better their 1-5 overall record when they play the 5-1 Walker Wildcats on Friday.
