Southern Football Practice

Southern Football Practice

By Kevin Kramer

Intern, Louisiana Gridiron Football

As a first time intern with Louisiana Gridiron Football, I got the chance to enjoy my first ever college football summer practice today with the Southern University Jaguars. Today was my first time visiting, Southern University and I left very impressed with what I witnessed. For starters I did not realize how nice the Southern University Football Stadium was until I saw it today. Of course practice was not held in the Stadium, but I was still very impressed from the outside view. Practice was held outside of the Stadium on their practice field in what felt like 100 degree weather. However, the very hot weather conditions did not stop local supporters of the Jaguars from coming out to watch the practice as well. The field was lined with Jaguar fans and Southern University Alumni there to support their Southern Jaguars.

I got the opportunity to watch the Jaguars practice for a good period of time and I was impressed with the talent I saw on the field. I was especially impressed with what I was witnessing from the defensive side of the Jaguars team. Every time the ball was snapped the pressure was on the quarterback from the Jaguar defensive line. I also witnesses good outside coverage with at least three interceptions from the corner backs. The severe heat did not stop the Jaguars from giving it all they had today at practice. As returning SWAC champions I would expect no less from the Southern University Jaguars. Overall, after witnessing a summer practice with the Jaguars I expect great things from them this season.
