SAINTS ARE NOW 6-1

The Saints, happily, beat my Packer’s long-time rival the Chicago Bears Sunday 36-25 and are now 6-1. Coach Payton should be in the running for coach of the year with the way he has rallied the team in the absence of QB Drew Brees.

With New Orleans severely short-handed, playing without Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara and Jared Cook, and Chicago at home with Trubisky and Taylor Gabriel back, this was a game the Bears had a chance to win.

But the Bears got beat-down. They managed  252 yards, the bulk of which came in the fourth quarter.  As for Chicago’s seven running plays, two were fumbles. Trubisky ‘s performance was lack-luster throwing the ball into the grass, overthrowing his receivers, and getting sacked after holding onto the ball too long.

Back-up QB Bridgewater gave one of his best performances and appears to be finding his comfort zone.

Brees said he plans to return to practice this week and hopes to be able to play as early as next Sunday’s against the Arizona Cardinals at home. “We’ll see how it goes. I’d love to. It’s a goal,” When asked if he considers it a realistic goal, based on the medical evaluations of his thumb injury and how he has felt throwing the ball in recent weeks, Brees said, “I hope so.” My feeling is that he will play some just to get back into the groove, but if things go badly, Coach Payton may put him in. This should be an easy game for the Saints but we will see.

Until next time,

GEAUX SAINTS!
