Another year, another standout from Bossier City that dominated the competition for Team North. After Arayvis Davenport went off in the 2023 bowl game, Javeon Mitchell did the same thing for his team this year, winning Team north offensive MVP in the process. Mitchell plays QB, WR, and DB for Rusheon Middle School, and will be going to Bossier next year to join Arayvis and become another great playmaker for that team.
He had the longest play of all of the Junior High games, a sensational 86 yard catch and run that went for an unbelievably impressive touchdown. That one highlight showcases everything that Javeon brings to the table as a playmaking athlete. His footwork, agility, and acceleration are great for his age, and his contact balance is very impressive for only being 5’6″ 115 pounds. Then, once he finds any open space, he breaks away with his speed, completing the incredible touchdown that he scored for Team North.

He has a lot of room to grow, but his potential as a playmaker is sky high. He played WR and DB in the bowl game (where he compiled 1.5 tackles, 1 INT, and 1 PBU), but he has also played a lot of QB at the junior high level, which is what he is looking to play when he gets to High School as well. If he does, the potential of Bossier having him and childhood friend Arayvis Davenport in the same backfield can make them a real threat in the Shreveport area for years to come.
What got you into football in the first place?
When I was in the 6th grade, I didn’t want to play football, but there was a coach that saw that I had potential, and he wanted me to try out. That’s really how it all got started.
What accomplishments are you the most proud of in your young career?
I am really proud of myself seeing how the other players learn to play like me, and being able to teach them to do different things. Staying focused, keeping out of trouble in school, things like that.
What is the one area you have grown the most in as a player since you started playing?
I’ve gotten better playing defense. I love playing on both sides of the ball, and my footwork is one thing I’ve gotten really good at.
What is your favorite game you have played? What stood out about it and why?
I would say it was against Greenacres. I had 3 TD passes, over 100 yards passing, and 2 rushing TDs.
What are your overall thoughts on the bowl game and winning offensive MVP for your team?
The experience was really fun. The thing I really liked about it was doing the practices. We got to practice doing what was right and meet with the coaches. In the meetings, I got to meet with everybody and get on everybody’s good side. I had a lot of fun in Baton Rouge.
What is a college or NFL player you like to model your game off of?
The college player is Travis Hunter. I want to be on the field all the time, playing both offense and defense.. For NFL, I’ll go with Justin Jefferson.
What do you want to improve on the most going into high school?
I used to play QB, but I want to improve my stance and how I throw the ball.
So, you’re playing WR and DB now, but it sounds like you want to play QB when you get to High School. Is that right?
No sir. I don’t want to. I got to.
What teams do you root for when watching sports?
In the NFL I root for the Lions and the Ravens.
What sports do play other than football?
Basketball and track.
What do you want to do once your playing days are over?
I want to start a clothing brand. Or, if that doesn’t work, I can go into welding.
Finally, why should fans keep their eye on you as a rising star?
Any time we are down, and we need to be up, I’m always going to make a play for us to be able to score.
