POSTGAME QUOTES Louisiana vs. McNeese State

| Sept. 10, 2016 | Cajun Field

Louisiana Head Coach Mark Hudspeth

“Great to finally get that win we’ve been talking to our team about all week. Our first goal in this new season was to get that first win under our

belt. I’m proud of the way the guys prepared; proud of the way they overcame adversity this week. The thing I told them I was most proud about

was the way they overcame adversity this week, rallied together, and found a way to improve this week, and I think it was pretty evident on the

field. Some guys had some really good efforts, really good effort as a team.

“In the third quarter, I thought the lightning delay somewhat hurt us because we really had the momentum all our way. We thought we were start-
ing to wear them down physically, and I thought the delay gave them some new energy. You have to give them credit, they’ve got an outstanding

football team. Lance [Guidry] does a great job with those guys. After sitting in the hotel today and watching the ‘Fighting Rebowes’ of Nicholls State

University just about beat Georgia, it just about made me sick because I was pulling hard for Coach Rebowe and those guys. To see them go in on

the road is not make you feel really good. And then you’ve got the top team in the Southland Conference rolling into our stadium. That was just a

long afternoon thinking about all of that.

“The guys had some superlatives tonight. Elijah McGuire became the second all-time leading rusher in school history. Anthony Jennings I thought

was just outstanding again, 15 out of 21. If you look at receiving, Ja’Marcus Bradley had six catches for almost 100 yards, and that guy is a freshman.

On top of that, for the second straight week, our offense has zero turnovers. That’s strong, that’s really strong.

“Defensively tonight, we got a turnover. I thought the four-man front was a much improved look for us today. I thought we did a much better job

there. Trev Miller, who had three tackles for loss and three-and-a-half sacks, I thought was outstanding tonight, along with Travis Crawford for the

second week in a row.

“Still, there are a lot of things to improve upon, a lot of things we have to go back and correct. Penalties are still hurting us in some areas. We’ve just

got to eliminate those and not put ourselves in tough positions.

“Overall, good win at home against a team that has been a thorn in our side, to say the least, for the last 40 years, especially when they’ve won the

last 13 out of 15 meetings, if I’m not mistaken. Great win for our alumni who were back in school back during that era, and I’m glad we could get

them that win tonight. Solid crowd, not a great crowd, but a solid crowd. Really appreciate everybody that came and pulled for us. It got loud down

there on the sideline and that was great. We needed that. I’m proud of the team, and now we’re excited about moving forward and opening up

conference play next week against South Alabama. It won’t get any easier, a team that just knocked off Mississippi State rolling into town. Big test

for us right off the bat.”

McNeese State Head Coach Lance Guidry

“We played a pretty good first half. We got in striking distance there at the end. We weren’t physical enough tonight. I told them that it was going

to be a fistfight and whoever was the most physical team was going to win. They were the most physical team. McGuire really ran hard and he ran

possessed and we didn’t tackle.”

“Everything is correctable, but we just have to play with a little more intensity. In our conference there is the Sam Houston’s of the world and you

are going to have to play against them and that’s kind of the reason that we lost the playoff game last year.”

“We moved the ball well all night. We had some opportunities that we missed out on, a couple of penalties. The bottom line is when we scored, we

let them come right back. Hats off to McGuire and Jennings. They played well tonight and are some good football players.”
