Parkview Baptist Eagles celebrates homecoming with a win over the Port Allen Pelicans 49-12

In this week 9 matchup, the Parkview Baptist Eagles hosted the Port Allen Pelicans for their 2023-24 homecoming. The Parkview Eagles were looking to extend their winning streak to seven games and improve to 8-1, while the Port Allen Pelicans were looking to extend their winning streak to three games and improve to 5-3-1. Last season when these two teams faced, the Eagles were able to shut out the Pelicans 37-0. This football season the Pelicans were looking to rewrite what happen last year and potentially spoiling the Eagles Homecoming.

The first quarter started off with an Eagle QB sneak for a touchdown. Following that touchdown, the Pelicans had a costly fumble that was recovered by the Eagles defense. The fumble put the Eagles in excellent field position. They were able to capitalize on the good field position with rushing touchdown to increase their lead to 14-0. This put the Pelicans into a bigger deficit getting the ball back after the second Eagle Touchdown.

The Pelicans looked to shorten the deficit coming into the second quarter, but the Eagles had other plans. After the Pelican’s drive stalled out, the Eagles marched down the field went in their “bag of tricks” for the touchdown with some trickery. The pelicans got the ball back hoping to get points on the board, but their drive stalled out and ended up having to punt. A bad snap on the punt led to the Eagles recovering the ball in the end zone for a touchdown to increase their lead. The following drive after the bad snap on the punt, the Pelicans were looking to put some points on the board going into the halftime. Before going into halftime, the pelicans were able to sustain a great long drive for a rushing touchdown. Being down 28-6 going into halftime, the Pelicans were able to gain some momentum with the touchdown going into the half.

Any momentum the Pelicans had coming out the half, the Eagles made sure to squash it. Getting the ball coming out the half, the Eagles were able to march down the field and score a touchdown off a beautiful throw and catch by the Eagles QB and WR. After that touchdown pass, the Eagles offenses took off and did not look back. The Pelicans could not get anything started offensively, with most of their drives stalling and resulting in punts. The Eagles offense was on full display against the Pelican’s defense with most of their drives in the third quarter resulted in a touchdown.

The Pelicans shown flashes of life with their running back breaking off a long run for a touchdown, but the late effort by the Pelicans was not enough. The Eagles were able to hold on to their large lead to secure a win on their homecoming. With this win, the Eagles were able to advance their winning streak to seven and is still undefeated in district play. With the lost the Pelicans fall to 4-4-1 and end their two-game winning streak. In the end the Eagles offense was just too much to handle for the Pelican’s defense.
