I recently just watched a Netflix series called Last Chance U. It takes place in Scooba, Mississippi at a small community college. Folks in the show were so passionate about their school and their football. In the middle of nowhere Mississippi, there was a hidden gem where all football players came together from various backgrounds. Some had troubled pasts; others were trying to make it to the next level.
There was one player in particular that stood out in the Netflix series. His name is Ronald Ollie. People may recognize the name now because he moved from East Mississippi Community College to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana where he currently plays on the defensive line. Ronald Ollie is a character throughout the show.
His smile is contagious and people revolved around. He was just one of those guys that you wanted to be around because he made you laugh and smile without even trying. Just like his fellow teammates back in East Mississippi, he had one goal in his mind and that was to get out of Scooba. Ollie thought all hope was gone when East Mississippi’s playoff bid was cut short due to an unfortunate team fight that occurred when they played Mississippi Delta College in 2015.
It was a tragic event as the Lions were looking to contend for another National Championship. Luckily for Ollie, with his tremendous athleticism and nose for game, he found the right college to play football at in Thibodaux, LA. The Colonel defensive lineman is not alone as his fellow teammate from East Mississippi, Marcel Andry, also joined him at Nicholls State. I cannot wait to see the season unfold and watch these two continue their football careers.
