McNeese State vs. Nicholls State

Lake Charles, LA was the epicenter of Southland Conference football this past Saturday as McNeese State hosted Nicholls State. Both teams have 2 losses on their schedule but it does not show how well they have competed and how close the games were. McNeese had a tough loss to in state rival, UL-Lafayette and Nicholls recorded two losses as well on their against very well coached FBS programs such as South Alabama and University of Georgia.

McNeese got a chance to put points on the board first as Chase Fourcade threw an early pick-6 interception to Andre Fuller. The Cowboys were successful on their conversion.

It was a tough first half for the Colonels as they struggled to get any kind of running game going making it tougher on Chase Fourcade to produce yardage. Fourcade threw another interception in the 2nd Quarter, which put the Cowboys in a good territorial position to add onto the scoreboard.

The second half was all about the Cowboys. Ryan Ross did not rack up a lot of yardage on the ground but did turn 9 receptions into 110 receiving yards as well as punching 2 touchdowns into the end zone.

Both teams were solid in the rushing defense but it was McNeese who capitalized through the aerial attack. Tabary threw for 376 yards and went down as the 2nd highest yardage total by a quarterback in McNeese’s football history.
