Nate Cox’s 5 Touchdown outing too much for the Bears

Carencro made a key 4th down stop on St. Thomas More’s opening drive. The 6’8 Nate Cox was moving the ball very well for the Cougars until they decided to run on 4th down. They responded with an impressive touchdown drive to bring the score to 7-0. Carencro’s Treylon Barnaba ran it in for 3 yards before hitting payday.

St. Thomas More woke up on the next drive as Nate Cox threw a bomb to Senior Griffin Hebert for a Cougar touchdown.   The conversion was good to bring it back to a 7-7 tied game.

It did not take long for Nate Cox to take the Cougars back to the end zone as he threw his 2nd touchdown of the night just as the 2nd Quarter began. He found Mason Pesson for the 16-yard reception. The Cougars took a 14-7 lead.

Treylon Barnaba rushed on the flowing play after kickoff and brought the Bears deep into Cougar territory. Mondarius Poullard took care of the rest as he ran the ball for a 17-yard touchdown. However, Carencro missed the extra point attempt still trailing 14-13.

Carl Randall threw an interception on the following drive as he attempted to go deep. The Cougars would respond with another impressive drive by Cox. On a 4th& 1, St. Thomas More decided to go for it and found Matthew Gautreaux for the wide-open 27-yard reception touchdown bringing the score to 21-13.

Carencro took a bit hit, as Carl Randall had to leave the game in the 2nd Quarter due to an ankle injury. However, backup quarterback Austen Breaux found Deion Senegal on a 6-yard reception touchdown. Breaux later decided to go for the 2-point conversion to narrow the gap and was successful finding Jalen Angelle for the conversion to tie the game once again at 21-21.

Things started off very slow for both teams as no one could get anything going out of halftime. St. Thomas More made a late 3rd Quarter drive but had to settle for a 45-yard field goal by Gabe Pontiff. The kick was good bringing the score to 24-21 with St. Thomas More taking the lead.

Carencro came back with an explosive 67-yard reception touchdown by Eric Tolivour who broke one tackle and took it to the house. The Bears would take the lead back after that touchdown with a 28-24 score.

After a series of turnovers, St. Thomas More got the ball deep in Bear territory and found Griffin Hebert for the 2nd time of the night for a much needed touchdown. Nate Cox threw his 4th touchdown pass of the night bringing the score to 31-28.

Treylon Barnaba tried to get things going for the Bears after the backup quarterback Austen Breaux began to struggle. The Cougar defense proved too much to handle as they forced a fumble and recovered it. Cox would come back onto the field and found his favorite receiver once more for his 5th touchdown pass of the night. Griffin Hebert caught his 3rd touchdown of the night on the 34-yard reception. The Cougars hold a comfortable 37-28 lead.

Carencro would take another shot at the field but was held short by the Cougar defensive unit. Nate Cox would take the offense back out to drive the ball down to the field till the end of regulation. The final score would stay at 37-28.
