Nicholls State wins in Overtime against Houston Baptist

The Huskies got off to a nice start but Nicholls State showed discipline as they held them for a 42-yard field goal on the opening drive. Houston Baptist would take an early 3-0 lead.

The Huskies would march down the field on their next possession but would have to settle for a field goal. However, Ronald Ollie blocked the field goal attempt and returned it for a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead.

Houston Baptist continued to show good composure on offense as they continued to make forward progression. B.J. Kelly took it for 4 yards before scoring a touchdown. The Huskies would go up 10-7 at the beginning of the 2nd Quarter.

The Nicholls State offense struggled at the beginning of the 1st half forcing them to punt on their next possession. However, they would show strong and aggressive play on the defensive front to get the ball back. Chase Fourcade would find Damion Jeanpiere for a 50-yard reception touchdown to take a 14-10 lead.

C.J. Okpalobi would find plenty of room on the following Colonel drive to set up Chase Fourcade on a rushing touchdown the following play. Fourcade would rush it in from 9 yards out to take a 21-10 lead before halftime.

The Huskies came marching down the field as they found the end zone on a 7-yard reception by Ricard Barnett in the 3rd Quarter. The touchdown would narrow the margin to a 21-17 score with Nicholls State still on top.

Houston Baptist forced Nicholls State to punt on the following drive and they would drive down the field to settle for a field goal attempt due to a stingy Colonel defense. Nicholls State would still hold the lead 21-20.

Nicholls State would find their first turnover of the evening as Jeff Hall intercepted the ball within Huskie territory. Chase Fourcade would try to get the Colonel offense going but they would settle for a 44-yard field goal to put them ahead 24-20.

The Colonel defense was solid all night until they gave up a 26-yard quarterback sneak for a touchdown. The late 4th Quarter touchdown would cost the Colonels the lead as they trailed 27-24 with a 1:25 left to play.

Chase Fourcade would lead the Colonel offense and make an impressive drive down the field along with a few penalty calls going their way to put them in decent field goal range. McKey would convert the 35-yard field goal attempt to tie the game at 27-27 with 0:06 left to go in the 4th.

Fourcade made a beautiful pass to Jeanpiere in Overtime to put them in the red zone for the 1st attempt to score. However, they would have to settle for a field goal that was eventually no good for the Colonels.

B.J. Kelly would make a few yards on the ground to get a better look at a field goal attempt. However, Alec Chadwick would miss on the attempt still leaving it at a tied ball game.

Terrance Peters would have a nice run at the line gaining some valuable yards for the Huskie offense. Chadwick would get another shot at redemption and would make the conversion putting the Huskies ahead 30-27.

The Colonels would not go down as easy as they proved themselves tough to be throughout the season in the past couple of games they played in Overtime. C.J. Okpalobi would come back with a 10-yard rushing touchdown to end the game at 33-30. Nicholls State improves to 3-3 overall and will host Sam Houston State next weekend at Home.
