Mississippi Gulf Coast Dominates Pearl River with Explosive Ground Game in 41-14 Victory

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (5-0, 3-0 MACCC) continued its perfect season with a commanding 41-14 win over Pearl River (3-2, 2-1 MACCC) on September 26, 2024. Despite a quick start by Pearl River, with J. Jefferson scoring on a 20-yard run, Gulf Coast responded with three first-quarter touchdowns, highlighted by Trey Hall’s 60-yard and 7-yard rushing scores.

Gulf Coast’s running game was the key to their dominant performance, amassing 336 rushing yards. Trey Hall was unstoppable, finishing with 171 yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries, including a spectacular 70-yard run in the third quarter. Chandler Chapman added 130 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Landon Varnes connected with Lester Miller and JP Coulter for touchdown passes, giving Gulf Coast a 41-7 lead heading into the final quarter. Pearl River managed a late touchdown in the fourth quarter, with Keenan Franks scoring from 3 yards out.

On defense, Gulf Coast limited Pearl River to 303 total yards, with a strong performance from Tylan Cole, who recorded seven tackles and a sack, and Damaryion Fillmore, who grabbed an interception.

Gulf Coast’s relentless ground game and stout defense proved too much for Pearl River, securing their place atop the MACCC standings.
