Today starts a series of getting to know the future LSU Tigers and what they bring to the table including freshmen and transfers at each position starting with quarterback.
It is always good to grab at least one quarterback per signing class and LSU got themselves one of the best quarterbacks in what was the most loaded class ever at the position in the state of Louisiana with highly rated guys like Newman quarterback Arch Manning (Texas) and Zachary quarterback Eli Holstein (Alabama) coming out of this year’s group.
Meanwhile, the Tigers ended up getting a quarterback that is just as talented as the two mentioned above in Woodlawn High School four-star quarterback Rickie Collins. After once being committed to play for the Purdue Boilermakers, the 6’2, 185-pound dual threat announced his de-commitment and soon after, announced his decision to stay in his hometown of Baton Rouge and play for the LSU Tigers back in early August.
Collins is the only quarterback to sign with the Tigers in the 2023 class and joins veteran signal callers Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier as the only scholarship quarterbacks on the roster.
Collins was mentored by former LSU quarterback Marcus Randall as his head coach and had a standout prep career with the Woodlawn Panthers throwing for close to 5,000 yards and 49 touchdowns.
As one of the nation’s top quarterbacks, Collins ended up choosing the Tigers over the likes of Florida State, Arkansas and Georgia Tech to name a few.
What makes Collins so special and what he brings to the table is his strong arm while also having the ability to extend plays with his legs when plays break down.
In terms of raw physical talent and measurables, Rickie Collins can certainly be a force to be reckoned with as a potential quarterback of the future for the Tigers.
