Madison Prep drop to 1-2 after their loss to Scotlandville 37-6

In Friday night’s matchup, the Madison Prep Chargers traveled down the road to go up against the Scotlandville Hornets. Madison is coming off their first win of the season, after a 27-8 win against Southern Lab. Scotlandville entered the game with an 0-2 record on the season, after losing to Edna Karr last week, 42-8.

Scotlandville won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball to start the game. After a couple big first down runs, the Hornets were the first to strike with a stunning touchdown play. After a bad snap to start the play, somehow Scotlandville’s quarterback C’zavian “Zae” Teasett was able to recover the ball, as it took a fortunate bounce right into his hands. As Teasett recovered it, he was able to find a wide open receiver downfield for a 21 yard touchdown reception. After that big play for the Hornets, the energy on the Madison Prep side deflated. The chargers tried to get their offense going in the first quarter, but they had a few penalty issues. The penalties on offense affected the Chargers momentum, as they were not able to convert on long third down plays.

The Hornets’ offense did not let their foot off the pedal until the final whistle blew. They were able to get their run game going early and effectively. With the help of their senior running backs, Covanta Milligan and Cedric Walker, the Hornets were able to move the chains and the ball down the field with efficiency. Zae Teasett was also another factor in Scotlandville’s run game. Zae used athleticism to escape, get out of the pocket, and pick up some key first downs with his legs. He also used that athleticism to extend plays and make some big throws downfield. The productive run game for the Hornets helped them get out to a 23-0 lead before halftime

In the second half, the Chargers started off with the ball, but could not get the run game going with the Scotlandville defensive line bringing pressure all game. They were getting to the quarterback, pressuring the quarterback, and not allowing Madison’s running backs a chance to get anything going. The Chargers also had some turnover issues in the second half. Scotlandville was able to block the Charger’s punt and capitalize on it with a touchdown run from Teasett. After going up 30-0, the Chargers Tylan Johnson escaped the pressure and found David Jones for a big 25 yard reception to start off their drive. After a couple first downs, the Hornets’ defensive line came with pressure, caused Johnson to fumble the ball and recovered it. That would lead to the end of the third quarter.

The Hornents started off the fourth quarter with a loud 48 yard touchdown run from Covanta Milligan. After that, the Chargers were able to get on the board with a 3 yard touchdown run from junior Tony Lewis, but it would be too late for them. The Hornets were able to run some time off the clock and left the Chargers offense with a very little time left. Scotlandville would go on to win the game 37-6.

After going 1-2 to the season, the Chargers get prepared for a short week as they take on Parkview Baptist away on Thursday, 9/22.

Scotlandville get their first win of the season and will face off against West Monroe next week.
