LSU Five Star Linebacker Harold Perkins Has Five Star Performance In Earning Multiple Player Of The Week Awards

Over the last two weeks, LSU freshman Harold Perkins has taken the country by storm with his play in the team’s most recent two wins against Alabama and Arkansas. His performance against Alabama was fantastic, but his recent game against the Razorbacks was special. With the offense struggling, it was the Tigers’ five star signee that put on a five star performance to help carry the Tigers in a 13-10 win over Arkansas in Fayetteville. In case you didn’t get to watch the game or read the game recap above, LSU’s Harold Perkins took it upon himself to win the game and help the Tigers clinch the SEC West on a cold Saturday. Perkins had one of the greatest defensive performances in program history tying a school record with four sacks plus eight tackles to go along with a pair of forced fumbles, a quarterback hurry and a pass breakup. Perkins tied Chuck Wiley, who had four sacks and two forced fumbles against South Carolina back in 1995.

The second forced fumble by Perkins also iced the Tigers’ win when the Razorbacks were looking for a potential game tying field goal late in the football game.

What made the performance even more outstanding was that Perkins had the flu before the game.

“He got sick before the game and he threw up as he was going into the team meal and I said, ‘hey, you know MJ threw up when he had his greatest game.”

“His response was ‘Who’s MJ?”

“I said, ‘man, I am getting so old.”

The five star freshman from Cypress, Texas had plenty of individual awards throughout the week as he was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, Walter Camp Defensive Player of the Week, and Bednarik Award Player of the Week.

This was not the first time that Perkins has been recognized for individual performances as he has won back to back SEC Defensive Player of the Week awards and earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after his performance a couple of weeks ago against Ole Miss.

As far as the Walter Camp Performance of the Week goes, this is the first time that a LSU player has earned Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors since Ty Davis-Price. He joins a list of 11 of LSU players who have won the award since the organization began naming players of the week in 2004.

This highly talented freshman is one of the best defensive players in the nation as he leads the Tigers in sacks and is third in the conference in that category with 7.5.

It is safe to say that LSU fans will get used to seeing #40 winning more awards for the Tigers in years to come.
