LSU defensive coordinator Matt House is one of 51 coaches that have been nominated for the Broyles Award, which goes to the top assistant coach in college football.
Named after legendary Arkansas head coach Frank Broyles, the Broyles Award has been recognizing the nation’s top assistant coaches ever since the award has been formed back in 1996.
House, who is the Tigers’ defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, is a major reason for the Tigers’ success in year one of the Brian Kelly era. In his first year as LSU’s defensive coordinator, he has turned the Tigers’ defense into one of the fiercest in the conference only giving up 21 points per game while only allowing 347 total yards per game. LSU is also one of the league leaders in turnovers (16) and red zone defense.
The former Kentucky defensive coordinator and Kansas City Chiefs linebackers coach has also done a phenomenal job of putting star players like freshman sensation Harold Perkins and pass rusher BJ Ojulari among others to succeed.
Leading a defense that has only three returning starters from a season ago and making them into one of the best units in the country is an incredible feat. Because of that, House has been an unsung hero to the Tigers’ success in 2022.
