Live Oak reigns supreme over Denham Springs in Battle of Highway 16 rivalry, 21-6

Going into this game the Live Oak Eagles were 1-4, and Denham Springs Yellow Jackets was 4-1, and many expected Denham to steamroll right through Live Oak to advance to 5-1, but fortunately for the Eagles they had other plans for the Jackets.

To start the game, Denham could not have scripted a better opening drive, starting from there own 25 they pushed down the field and finally punched it in with a physical quarterback run by Gridiron Bowl commit Jerry Horne, and even the defense held the Eagles to two straight punts, then on the third drive by the Jackets the momentum changed for the rest of the game, with a pick six by Brody Welch and the good extra point by Brek Schultz, to put the Eagles up 7-6.

The second quarter was a rough one, with neither team showing great offensive drives, but the one thing that did matter in the second quarter was a fumble recovery by Calvin Ursin, and after a long and time consuming drive by the Eagles, they unfortunately did not get a touchdown but they did get three points thanks to their star kicker Brek Schultz. This quarter is also where the defense for Live Oak found their rhythm.

The third quarter is what you call a snooze fest, neither team doing anything out the ordinary, no big plays, just complete dominance by the Eagles defense and same with the Jackets defense, ending in a scoreless quarter. Everyone held of their fours while we ending the final quarter, and this is where everything just went right for the Eagles. To start off Brek Schultz bangs a field goal to put the eagles up 13-6, this quarter also had some great plays including a 30 plus yard reception by Calvin Ursin to get the Eagles into Jackets territory. Jackets still seemed to could not get anything clicking, they did fumble and it was recovered by Live Oak, this leading to the game sealing touchdown by wide receiver Cash Davis, which he had to do some great balance skills to get the touchdown, then they run the ball in for the two point conversion to go up 21-6. If Pat McAfee was watching this game he would be loving it because Brek Schultz put on an absolute clinic when it came to kicking or punting the ball this game which received player of the game at the end.
