Baton Rouge, LA- It was a defensive game opening up as neither team could make any significant yardage. Both teams shared a pair of punts until Brother Martin finally opened things up. Pat Hughes caught a short pass up the middle and turned it into a 40-yard touchdown. Brother Martin strikes first 7-0.

Scotlandville finally got on the board late in the 2nd Quarter with a 50-yard rushing touchdown by Levi Lewis. Lewis dodged several Crusader defenders before taking it to the end zone. However, a missed kick would still keep Brother Martin on top 7-6.

Brother Martin opened up the 2nd half with an interception to Scotlandville. The Hornets would capitalize on the turnover with a 10-yard reception touchdown by Vernon Powell. Scotlandville’s offensive line gave Levi Lewis plenty of time to make some key completions. They would attempt a 2-point conversion but failed to convert. The Hornets take the lead 12-7.

John-Paul Pierce threw his 2nd interception of the night on the following drive. It would cost the Crusaders once again as Levi Lewis was really looking sharp in the 2nd half of the game. He took the Hornets down the field for 55 yards before finding Vernon Powell for his 2nd touchdown of the night. Scotlandville continued to go for 2 points but once again was unlucky. They hold the lead 18-7 in the 4th Quarter.

Brother Martin could not get much of anything going in the aerial attack so they relied heavily on the run game by Bruce Jordan-Swilling. He ran hard all night and started to get shaken up a little bit with a nagging ankle injury. He finally busted loose for a 50-yard run but it was called back for a holding call. The Crusaders would have to settle for a 37-yard field goal attempt. Brother Martin trails 18-10.

The Crusaders made a crucial stop on the next Scotlandville possession forcing them to punt. Almost blocked, the Crusaders received the ball at their 40-yard line. John-Paul Pierce threw 3 clutch passes under 2:00 minutes to get the Crusaders into the red zone. Bruce Jordan-Swilling ran it in on the next play from 4 yards out to bring the game to 18-16. The Crusaders needed to convert a 2-point conversion to tie the game but was unsuccessful. The Hornets go on to win the game and will play Evangel Christian for the State Championship Game.
