HAMMOND, La. – Four Southeastern Louisiana games were among the early television selections for the 2016 football season announced Tuesday by the Southland Conference.
Matchups in the early portion of the schedule are set for telecast across ESPN3, the American Sports Network, Cox Sports Television and other outlets.
The Lions’ season opener at Oklahoma State will kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Net on Sept. 3. Southeastern’s home opener on Sept. 24 will be televised on Cox Sports Television, as Southland rival Northwestern State visits Strawberry Stadium for a 6 p.m. contest.
On Oct. 1, SLU’s league road game at Lamar will be broadcast on ESPN3 with kickoff set for 7 p.m. in Beaumont, Texas. The league office also announced the broadcast of the River Bell Classic, when the Lions visit in-state and Southland rival Nicholls on Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. on American Sports Network.
With the exception of the Southeastern-Nicholls matchup, the television plans for games Oct. 8 and beyond have not been announced. To ensure the best matchups are selected each week for various partners, the conference will reveal its television choices for games after Oct. 1 12 days prior to kickoff.
ESPN will exercise its option to make the initial choice most weeks, placing a top-tier game on ESPN3. The American Sports Network’s selected game will be syndicated throughout the region. Cox Sports Television will also make several choices, scattered throughout the schedule. American Sports Network broadcast will be simulcast on the Southland Digital Network, available via www.southland.org and the Southland app.
