Former LSU quarterback, Steven Ensminger, has been named the new Offensive Coordinator for the LSU Tigers. Ensminger, who is mostly known for his outstanding quarterback development, has been on the LSU coaching staff since 2010. His most notable protégé at quarterback was Jason Campbell, who went on to become a first round draft pick by the Washington Redskins in the NFL. During his time at LSU, Coach Ensminger served as the tight ends coach, as well as the interim offensive coordinator during the 2016 season. As the interim offensive coordinator for the latter half of 2016, Ensminger turned the Tigers into an offensive juggernaut. Under Ensminger, the Tigers averaged 32 points a game, while also averaging 465 total yards of offense a game. These extreme statistics came after his promotion to offensive coordinator in week 4 during the 2016 season. This high level of offensive production led the Tigers to a 6-2 record over their last 8 games in 2016. While in charge of the fierce LSU offense, Ensminger was able to break countless records, with the most notable one being against Missouri. During this game, LSU compiled 634 yards of total offense, which set a new LSU SEC single game record. Ensminger can be accredited with revamping a stacked LSU offense during the 2016 season. He helped a sputtering Tigers offense that was averaging 18 points a game and 339.5 total yards a game become an efficient offensive threat once he was promoted mid-season. Coach Ensminger is no stranger to the LSU Tigers and with his level of familiarity with the coaching staff and team, we can expect nothing but great things from him in the upcoming season.
