The theatrics were all out today at East Ascension as they played their homecoming game against Live Oak. This would be followed up by running back Zaylen Smith picking up a first down with East Ascension establishing their run game early. East Ascension’s backfield would move them all the way to the goal line but Live Oak would come up with the big 4th down stop from their defensive line. This would be followed up by East Ascensions defense quickly stifling Live Oaks offense with defensive lineman Jhaivon Johnson coming up with a sack. Alongside this rough drive Live Oak would only punt the ball around 15 yards starting East Ascension with the ball in scoring position. The Spartans would swiftly take advantage of this on a touchdown pass to wide receiver Jayden Ursin that would make the score 8-0 after a successful 2 point conversion. Live Oak would begin their next drive passing to receiver Tazien Sykes who would gain 8 yards. After this though they would lose a multitude of yardage after picking up back to back flags. The eagles would get saved though as East Ascension would then pick up a flag of their own on a pass interference call. After this Live Oak’s quarterback Cayden Jones would get mobile gaining a first on a 13 yard run. Live Oak would subsequently receive the ball to the 26 yard line, lose 15 yards on a penalty, and then punt the ball promptly. East Ascension would then pick up 3 straight incompletions forcing them to bring out their punt team. Although the punt would actually wind up as a fake, it simply ended with a 4th incompletion that gave the ball back to Live Oak. In the battle for the most turnovers in this quarter Live Oak’s offense runs out to the field and valiantly throws an interception to East Ascension’s Carson Landry. East Ascension’s Jason Blackburn would then use this momentum to score a 53 yard touchdown run that would put him and the Spartans up 31-14. Live Oak would then get the ball and give it to Brayden Felton who would single-handedly pick up 3 first downs off two runs and a reception. Afterwards they switched their focus to Calvin Ursin who would pick up two first downs of himself off receptions. Their defense would immediately deliver with Carson Landry picking up a sack. Calvin Ursin would get Live Oak out of this divot by gaining back to back first downs on receptions. Alongside this a Jake Landry reception would gain them 20 yards. Then, East Ascension’s Jhaivon Johnson would pick up a sack and Courtney Thomas would record an interception to seal the game at 38-21 East Ascension winning handedly.

Our goal was to make them drive and shrink the field and be able to play our brand of defense. And I thought we did that, we created some opportunities and some opportunities fell into our lap. But, just proud of our coaches they put together a great gameplan and our kids worked so hard this week at practice. The scout team was great giving us that up-tempo look so, just kudos to our defensive coordinator Darrius Carroll and the defensive staff they did a great job so extremely proud of them.
