DITR: QB John Thompson III, Bentonville West High School (Centerton, AR)

John Thompson III is a 6’0, 170lb. student-athlete who plays multiple positions at quarterback, wide receiver, and safety at Bentonville West High School in Centerton, Arkansas and is in the Class of 2026. John is a very intelligent student with a GPA of a 3.96 and is a very talented athlete when it comes to football. Throughout John’s 8 games as both JV and Varsity, he averaged 2,175 passing yards, 80% completion, 24 passing touchdowns, 386 rushing yards, and only 3 turnovers. Overall, John is a very talented quarterback who I believe has a chance at making it to the big leagues.

What are some things you overcame in life?

8th Grade year I tore my Meniscus in the last basketball game of the season. I was out for 5 months and, did not comeback until early July. I didn’t start at QB until the beginning of my 10th grade year and, now I will most likely be starting varsity QB for Bentonville West next year.

What are your biggest accomplishments?

Not only did I have a successful 10th grade football season. I maintained a 3.96 non-weighted GPA and, a state champion in powerlifting with the Bentonville West football team. I even created my own 7v7 team 479 Elite last summer.

What player do you compare yourself to and why?

A player I compare myself to is prime Russell Wilson with the Seahawks. Wilson’s ability to improvise and keep his eyes down the field when escaping pressure, is something I do well. Wilson also has an ability to make plays with his legs when he needs to and can have an impact in the run game.

What are your plans once you’re done with football and why?

Once I’m done with football I plan to purse a career in business. I have recently been accepted into an Ignite global business program offered by Bentonville Schools district.

What are your goals/new things you want to accomplish this upcoming season?

The biggest thing I want to accomplish for this next season is to win a state championship for Bentonville West high school. My individual goals for next season are 3,000+ passing yards a, 70% completion percentage, 0 Turnovers, 37 passing touchdowns (school record), and 500 rushing yards.

What do you like about the sport of football and how is it significant to you?

Ever since I was little I’ve been around football. my dad was a football coach at Euless Trinity and when I saw them do the Haka it lit a fire in me and it showed me a brotherhood that you can’t get playing any other sport. I love to compete and playing football gives me and my teammates an opportunity to compete against 11 guys trying to stop what we are trying to accomplish. Bentonville West is special to me and I look forward to representing my community and my school.

What is an interesting fact about you outside of football?

I’m a 3 time state championship in soccer with my club sporting Arkansas and, I’m a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) officer. I was born on Easter Sunday, my names is John, and I was born at 3:16pm

What colleges have received interest from if any and what is your dream college to play for?

I have not received any interest or offers at this point. My goal is to be the best player I can be for Bentonville West and hopefully I will get some offers down the road. My dream college is anywhere I can continue my academic and athletic career.
