DITR – Keydren Holliday

Keydren Holliday is a 6’3″, 275 pound, class of 2024 offensive lineman for the Liberty Magnet High School Patriots in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He primarily lines up at left tackle for the Patriots. Holliday uses his size to bully opponents – a lot of defensive lineman ended up on the ground this year when facing Holliday. He also excels in the running game, possessing good feetwork and quickness to open up holes. His play style mimics Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, and Trent Williams. Outside of football, Holliday regularly works out and conditions through powerlifting with teammates, usually on a daily basis. Outside of football, Holliday excels in the classroom, earning a respectable 3.6 GPA.

I had a chance to interview Keydren Holliday and get to know a little more about him as a player and as a person:

Why and at what age did you start playing football?

“I started playing at the age of 4. My dad got me into football … he played for Southern University and overseas from time to time.”

Have you always played your current position, or did you play a different position growing up?

“Growing up, I played guard. As I grew, I moved over to center, and then tackle when I got to high school.”

What sets you apart from everyone else on the field?

“Probably my knowledge of the game. I fell that when I’m on the field, I know most details on players and teams that they may not even know themselves.”

What is your favorite accomplishment so far in your football career?

“My best accomplishment so far has been being invited to Texas to participate in the U.S. Army Bowl combine… and being an honorable mention at my position for my district.”

What is your favorite memory playing football so far?

“My favorite memory would have to be team bonding… going out with the guys and having a good time.”

How do you balance athletics and academics?

“Balancing the two isn’t really hard. It’s just a mindset of getting it done with no excuses.”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced on the field?

“The biggest challenge I’ve faced would’ve been last year when I caught a stinger… or playing through whole games with no subs. But of course, it’s all about sacrificing yourself for the team.”

What are you hoping to achieve in this upcoming season?

“We’re striving to become one of the best programs in Louisiana. Personally, I want to be more than an honorable mention so first team all-state and champs is the end goal.”

What is your end goal for your football career?

“I want to make it to the collegiate level. Possibly the NFL too, but at least the collegiate level to have a free education.”

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned playing football?

“That would probably be mental toughness, and to always watch film. Know what you’re going into; give your all into everything you do.”

How do you prepare for big games?

“As a team, we’re much more locked in throughout the school day from when we get off the buses to when the game is over. A lot of mental and physical reps. Lots of film. Personally, I prepare the same, by watching film, weightlifting, conditioning, and on-the-field work with new input from coaches.”

What type of play style do you have?

“For my position I fell like I play aggressive but I’m smart enough to not get flagged.”

Lastly, who is the biggest role model in your life?

“My moms and my pops.”

Look for Keydren Holliday next season. He wears #72 and will be a force to reckon with on the Patriots offensive line.
