DITR: Fontainebleau High School QB Ian Burleson

Our latest Diamond in the Rough featured athlete is Fontainebleau High School, in Mandeville, Louisiana, 2024 QB Ian Burleson. At 5’10 and 150 pounds, Burleson looks to silence the hate and look towards next season. Fontainebleau is coming off a very tough season, but that is not stopping Ian from staying locked in on the football field and in the classroom as well. With a 3.5 GPA, he stays focused on school all while trying to bring a winning atmosphere back to the Bulldog community. His effort and athleticism can for sure set him apart from his competition, and will also help him gain the attraction of some colleges.

What age were you when you started playing football and why did you continue to do so over the years?

“I started when I was about 8 and it’s a game that’s always taught me to be tough and that’s why I still play”

What are you biggest strengths as a quarterback?

“The biggest strength is my decision making, I don’t force to many things and take what the defense gives me”

How would you describe a good teammate?

“A good teammate is someone who pushes other teammates and remember that we’re a family not just teammates”

What is something you can improve on for this upcoming season?

“Biggest thing to improve on is my ability to leave the pocket faster”

How will you move past last season’s struggles and perform well this coming season?

“We just have to leave the past in the past and move on, we can only go up from here”

How are you handling the quarterback competition happening at Fontainebleau for next season?

“I’m handling it good, I’m not selfish. If there’s things I can help the others QB’s on I will.”

How has the recruiting process been throughout high school for upcoming potential college. Any interests?

“No interest and it’s been hard to get on people’s radar but I’m still pushing through it”

Do you have any goals for this coming year? / What do you want to get out of this season?

“My goals for the season is be 10% better every game. It’s not about winning, more about why you messed up and how to fix it”

Why would a college want you as their quarterback/ what sets you apart from the others?

“What sets me apart is my attitude, I don’t care who I’m lined up against, my mindset is that my ball will be faster, stronger, more accurate, etc.”

Is there a quarterback who you embody your game after or watch to get some inspiration?

“A QB I study is Bryce young because he doesn’t care how short he is, he lets his game talk for him”

How would a teammate of yours describe you?

“As a a leader, they have full respect for me because every rep I give 110%”

Who has been your biggest role model in your life/ football life?

“My dad, he’s always been hard on me but I wouldn’t be here without him”
