DITR: Eric Jones, RB/ATH, Barbe HS

Eric Jones is a 5’11, 170-pound RB for Barbe High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana currently in his senior year. He has been a starter at Barbe since the second game of his freshman season and has made waves over his high school career. Entering this year, he was coming off of two back-to-back thousand-yard seasons and looking to accomplish even more this season. He is an all-purpose RB who also lines up at receiver and makes plays on the defensive side of the ball as well at defensive back. He has elite speed and is an overall playmaker on the field.

Who is favorite NFL/College player that you try to model your game after?

He’s currently retired right now, but it would be Bo Jackson. I run with long strides, so a lot of people have told me that I run like him and I rock the big pads as well so I always kind of modeled my game after him.

What’s your favorite thing about playing RB?

My vision. Just going through the line, breaking tackles, making big time cuts tat can make the defender get off balance and me scoring a touchdown. Those are some of the biggest things I love about being a RB. Getting that first down on 4th & 3 or scoring that touchdown when we are down, I feel like it plays a big role in my head, boosting my confidence and giving me energy.

I see that you have earned a few offers. How has your recruiting process been so far? What would be your dream school to play for?

My recruiting process is going good, but it’s not going too good, but at the end of the day, I’m letting God handle that. I’m not trying to rush anything, still focused on getting through the season. I know that it’s a hard for colleges to reach out right now because they also are also in season but I still make sure I send my film to every college that I have a chance to. Rather they’re D1, D2, D3, Juco, or NAIA, you know, just getting my film out, because you never know, I can send my film to Tulane and they can just look at it and brush it off.
But then, you know, here comes Alabama. They look at it and they’re like, okay, how can I add this guy to my play style?
So I make sure I send it to everyone just in case either that person picks it up just in case another person comes across that person I sent it uh send it to, you know, says, oh, we can use him. So, I mean, is this takes time um, and that’s all that you know, it’s really yeah. uh,
I’ve been getting help from my recruiter, Bill Manus, he has a website called NxtLvlScouts. I’m on there, a couple other guys that I know are on there as well, but he’s been helping me.
I actually this summer I flew out to Atlanta to go visit him and go to eight big time division one camps. So I had a blast, you know, it was amazing. I
I would love to play for like I said, Auburn of course, folowing in Bo Jackson’s footsteps. I also would like to play for TCU.
The reason why I like TCU is because they run a pistol formation, the same thing we run at Barbe. I would love to go to Clemson, I visited that camp this summer and I really liked what I saw. Same thing for Tennessee. Tennessee and their coaches were one of my favorites as well And man, I’d be happy to just get an offer from over there and get the opportunity to play over there. And I wouldn’t mind playing at LSU as well, you know, staying home, staying in Louisiana, just so my family can come watch me play because that’s where pretty much all my family is from, Louisiana. Just them being in the stands plays a big part, I don’t really care who comes to the game, but them being in the stands or watching me on TV, that’s what plays a big part in what pushes me.

So over your 3 seasons so far, What has been your favorite HS game of your career so far and what made it your favorite?

My junior year, in the game vs. Sulphur. The previous 2 years we had lost to them and it’s a big rivalry. It has been going on for decades and the winner gets a trophy and last year when we played them, my mindset was we need to win. So I had to get the team hyped up and feeling that same intensity that I felt, because that’s what being a leader is about. Being able to motivate my teammates and get them going. We ended up winning the game 35-0 and I had a great game with 3 touchdowns. My sister and other family had traveled into town for the game so it was just overall a really good night.

Entering your senior year, coming off of a thousand-yard season last year, what are some personal/team goals that you look to accomplish this year?

I want to surpass those stats. So I am shooting for 1,500 all-purpose yards and 25 touchdowns. I also just want everyone around me to be better than last year and keep elevating as a team. We ended up losing in the playoffs to a really good Zachary team, who had Trey’Dez Green who is at LSU now, so really just improving overall as a team and going deeper into the playoffs.

What’s an upcoming game you are looking forward to this season?

We have our rivalry vs Sulphur coming up in a few weeks so that is a game that I am really excited for like always. And then right after that game in week 9, in week 10, we play Sam Houston. Last time we played them I had one of my best games with over 200 yards and they have a pretty good team this year so those are 2 games I am excited to end the season with before starting the playoffs.

Give me a chance, man. I promise you won’t regret it. I’m that type of person that’s a leader, I’m ready to work and when the lights are off and everyone’s inside, I’m going to be outside putting in work. I’m going to show up an hour early, 30 minutes early for practice, for film or anything. I’m ready to work and I have goals that I’ve said since I started playing football and told myself this is what I want to do.
So I’m ready to break those goals, you know, of course it takes time but I’m ready to break those goals.
