Diamond in The Rough: Solomon Miles

University High also known as U-High is nestled on Louisiana State University’s campus and never ceases to amaze us when it comes to producing phenomenal athletes. U-High’s football program continues to house powerful athletes on and off-of the field, year after year. There is indubitable talent on the Cubs’ team and the class of 2020 appears to be shaping up already! One impressive player that deserves to be highlighted is the U-High Cubs own Solomon Miles. Solomon is a 15-year old sophomore standing at 6’3 and weighs 290lbs. He benches 230 pounds and squats 350 pounds. Solomon holds the Cubs down on the offensive line as a right guard. In addition to his athletic abilities, Solomon excels in the classroom maintaining a 3.4 GPA.

Solomon Mile’s love for the game began at a young age and he has been playing football since he was just 3 years old. I was shocked when Solomon’s mom said he weighed 95lbs at the age of 3! He was basically built for this game. When he was asked who is his favorite NFL player, Solomon responded, “Tyron Smith from the Dallas Cowboys! He is the best offensive tackle in the NFL and is huge. He’s also extremely aggressive on the field.” Solomon started on the Cubs’ JV squad last year and he set a goal of making the varsity starting lineup for this year. With hard work and persistence, he is doing just that and is now one of the Cubs’ starters as a right guard.

Why play on the offensive line? Solomon said, “I guess that’s where the hitting is and you can’t play without the O-line doing their best.” Although young, Solomon has already attended football camps with LSU and Alabama. He’s a solid player and has a good head on his shoulders.

Solomon has gotten an early start as he has been preparing to go to college. He’s such a bright individual, key player for the Cubs and knows there’s always room for growth. Solomon would love to be a student athlete at a large university. Currently, he is looking at LSU, Alabama State, TCU, Texas State and Florida State. Once admitted, Solomon said he wants to follow in his mom’s footsteps and major in business management. From a young age, he said his mom has always taught him how to succeed in all things and he believes this would be a good field for him. Solomon has set some personal goals of making 1st team all-district and getting 30 pancakes each season. As far as academics goes, Solomon is striving to boost his GPA up striving to get between a 3.8 and 4.0 this year.

As always, it was a pleasure getting to know Solomon and hearing him talk about his future plans. This young man continues to apply the pressure on the field and tackles the books as well. Watch out for him! I look forward to hearing more from Solomon Miles in the future as the sky is the limit for him!
