Diamond In The Rough: Kolbe Cage

Kolbe Cage is a 6’0″ class of 2021 Strong Safety and Outside Linebacker for Holy Cross School in New Orleans, Louisiana. Cage is very versatile as he has skill to play both of those positions. He is great at reacting quickly to anything happening on the field. At 210 pounds, Cage has a very dynamic and fast play style. He is also always up to engage in any type of aggressive contact. Cage is also a candidate for the Sports Illustrated All-American. Even though Cage leaves it all on the field, he also makes sure he works in the class as well as he has a 3.9 gpa.

At what age did you begin playing football and what motivated you to play?

I started playing football at the age of four. What really motivated me to play was my love for sports. I really started to become more motivated to play once I got to 9th grade. I figured I could really help my family through being great at this sport.

Do you play any other sports in high school?

Yes, I also play basketball. I’m really just a role player on the team, so I don’t a specific position on the team. I just help where I can.

How do you think coaches and teammates would describe you as a player?

I think they would describe me as a very physical player. They would also say I am really quiet. Even though I am quiet, I am physical whenever the field lights come on.

What advice would you give to younger players who want to play high school football one day?

I would tell younger players to always chase their dreams. Always believe in yourself. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. You can achieve what ever you want to achieve as long as you have the right mindset.

Outside of sports, do you have any hobbies?

Not really. If I am not at practice, I still will be training to get better.

What would you say are some of your strengths?

I would say my tackling and my physicality as some of my strengths. I can also track the ball well.

Do you have any specific personal goals for next season?

I would like to receive All-District again and First Team All-District. I want to be the Defensive Player of the Year. I just want to have an overall way better season than my Junior season.

What are some pregame activities that your team does?

For pregame, we have a 30 minute mass. After the mass, we eat our pregame meals. After all of that, we go over the game plans for the game.

What would you say motivates you the most?

My family motivates me the most. They’re the reason why I’m playing this sport.

What has football taught you about life?

It taught me something can go bad one day, but you can get over it. As long as you forget about a bad play, you can always make up for it. That’s basically how it is in life as well.

Have you thought of a major?

Yes, I want to major in Business.
