Diamond in the Rough: Kellan Hall

Q: How do you stay trained and in football-shape during the offseason?
“I really just try to belong with our football workouts, always trying to have it [two or three times] a day, whether it be going to the gym one day or going out to the field and doing drills and sprints. Just trying to keep that real consistency during the offseason.”

Q: How are you looking to improve your game?
“I think you can always improve in the basics… speed and strength is always real big. Just adding more to my bag as a passrusher, adding more moves, and just learn from people who have done it.”

Q: On the other side, what is the strongest aspect of your game?
“It would have to be my brains out there on the field. I really feel like I’m really good at diagnosing what is going on around me, especially as a defensive lineman. Just being able to pick out plays and really know what is going on with the offense.”

Q: What are some goals you’ve set for yourself?
“My goals right now are to make the all-state team and to just get back down to the dome for the state championship again this year, since we made it last year. Also to get that first D1 offer under my belt.”

Q: Do you try to model your game after any players, pro or collegiate?
“[I like ot loook at] Aaron Donald, Myles Garrett, and Chase Young, because their bags are so deep. Whether it’s a pass-rush or run, and they’re just so good at diagnosing plays and doing their job and more on the field.”

Q: Do you consider football to be more physically challenging, mentally challenging, or a bit of both?
“I would say a bit of both. There are prices in games. You’re getting beat up. But also, there is that mental aspect, like when you make a bad play or lose a game – not getting down on yourself is really hard. You have to keep pushing forward and looking ahead.”

Q: What is something you want your coaches to know about you, past, present, or future?
“I’m always going to be the hardest worker out there. I’m always going to keep pushing myself and my teammates to get better. I do feel like I take coaching well – whether it’s harsh, critical, it doesn’t matter to me. I know that my coaches are just trying to get me better.”
