Diamond in the Rough: Jhalen Brown

Jhalen Brown is a 5’11 220lbs senior running back at Ascension Episcopal High School in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana that runs a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash, can bench 360 and has a 32” inch vertical jump. Brown had 24 rushing yards and a touchdown in the Louisiana Gridiron Football bowl game.

When did you start playing football and when did you begin to like playing football?

I started playing football in the 2nd grade; I played and fell in love with football in the 8th grade, from then on I felt like football was my calling.

What is your greatest strength and your greatest weakness?

My greatest strength as a player is working; I’m always trying to get better as a player and I’m always trying to outwork anybody. My quickness and overall speed especially my lateral quickness is an area that I need to improve in.

Who is your biggest motivator?

My mom and dad because they do everything me and they give me everything I need. They believe in me, with them I feel like I can do everything.

What has football taught you about yourself as a person?

When times get hard I can grind through. It showed a lot about me that I didn’t even know, that I can step up to the plate whenever times get tough, it showed me that I’m tougher than I’ve always thought.

What do your coaches say about you?

I am a hard worker and a leader.

Why should colleges recruit you?

I am a good football player that can help the program; also I’m a good team spirited guy that can uplift my teammates so that everyone plays their hardest.

What did you think about the Louisiana Gridiron Football bowl game you played in recently?

It was extremely fun, it wasn’t too strict, it was competitive, met a lot of good people,

and I had a lot of fun doing it. I really enjoyed myself.
