Diamond in the Rough: Jacob Parker, Warren Easton High School

Jacob Parker is a 5’11 205lb defensive end from Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, LA. Jacob plays with great knowledge of the game and has the ability to set the edge consistently. He brings tremendous strength to the defensive end position, being able to bull rush through blockers and get to the quarterback to disrupt plays. Parker possesses great speed and quickness to be able to get around blockers and chase down the ball wherever it is on the field. He is a “mean streak” type player who is tough for any offense to contain once he gets going. Parker was elected as both the teams’ defensive and special teams MVP during his junior season, racking up 61 tackles, 18 sacks, and 6 forced fumbles. Jacob has his sights on a deep playoff run during the 2018 season.

When did you start playing football?

When I was 4 years old at Gresham Park in Atlanta, Georgia.

What is it that makes you love the game?

The competitiveness of the game and being a part of a team is what I love most about the game.

Who do you model your gameplay after?

Ray Lewis because I love the way he approaches the game and his mindset. The way he comes towards the game is inspirational. I love his cerebral attitude.

What are you most motivated by?

My motivation is my family and god; I keep god first in everything I do.

How do you feel your previous season went?

I think it opened a lot of eyes last season and I can only get better from here. Team wise we didn’t end it with a championship so I see it as unsuccessful.

What area of your game would you like to improve on this off-season?

Your football IQ can never be too high so just watching more film and studying other teams and their players.

What would college coaches be most impressed with about you?

I’m undersized but with the plays I make you can never tell. So my fight is something college coaches would be impressed with. I will never back down from anyone. Also my leadership, dedication, and pride.

What are your expectations for next season?

Personally I’m trying to break the state sacks record and team wise trying to win my schools first state championship since 1942.

What kind of student are you in the classroom?

I’m a leader. If teammates get off track, I try to help them. I’m very active in school, I’m in student council and the national honor society.

What do you want to study in college?

Sports Medicine or Kinesiology. I’m very interested in being an athletic trainer because I like the way they handle things under pressure and how they help people. I find it very interesting.

What would you say are your biggest accomplishments?

Being inducted into the national honor society and also being named team captain this year.

What have your learned about yourself while playing football?

I learned that I can be a leader on a different level and also that football is a character builder. I have learned about accountability and how to be on a team. Also that when adversity hits I fight back harder.

What would you consider your biggest strengths as a football player?

The dog and fight in me. I won’t let anybody try to get the best of me because of my size.

What would your coach say about you?

He would say that I’m a hard working leader, accountable, and special.
