Diamond in the Rough: Ni’kendrick Carter, Many High School

Ni’kendrick Carter is a 6’3 225lb Free Safety from Many High School (Many, Louisiana). Ni’kendrick is a highly touted prospect and is one of the top defensive backs in the state for the 2019 class. He is a big bodied safety and a big time playmaker who can come up and deliver a hit at the line of scrimmage. An explosive tackler that combines size and speed. Ni’kendrick possesses great reaction time for the ball and close out speed to be able to stop any play stretched to either side of the field. Carter has great coverage skills, who is tough for anybody in the state to go up against. In Ni’kendrick’s first year playing defense he had 70 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 8 TFL, and was an All-District selection his junior season. Ni’kendrick is a complete back and is ready to help his team to a deep playoff run in 2018.

When did you start playing football?

When I was 8 years old in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

What is it that makes you love the game?

I love how it’s such a physical game. Everything about it really, I just love playing football.

Who do you model your gameplay after?

Jamal Adams because I like the way he plays with a high motor. I feel we play with the same mindset.

Growing up, did you play any other sports?

I played basketball but stopped in ninth grade.

What area of your game would you like to improve on this off season?

My explosiveness. Just working on playing the game faster and getting my hips more flexible.

What have you learned from playing football?

I’ve learned that football is all about speed. Speed kills and it gives you a huge advantage on the field.

What would college coaches be most impressed with about you?

They would like my size and that I’m a very good pass rusher. I come in and work hard every day, I’m a leader, and I’m all about brotherhood.

What are your expectations for next season?

Winning a state championship and trying to get all state.

What would you consider your biggest strengths as a football player?

My tackling, size, and covering abilities.

What would your coach say about you?

That I’m a great leader, great kid, hard worker, and great football player.
