Diamond In The Rough: Dez’Mond Schuster

Dez’Mond Schuster is an offensive tackle/ defensive end, who is a 4-star player rated as a 7.6.  He is a senior at East Ascension High School listed at 6’4 288lbs, but after talking to him I found out he is about 6’5 310lbs currently (maybe 6’6 on a good day). Dez’Mond is a very well-spoken young man who seems to be willing to do whatever his team need him to do for a win.  An example would be how he is primarily playing on the offensive line this year even though his film would suggest he is exclusively a defensive player.  He seems like a player who really enjoys contact and doesn’t back down from a challenge.  I look forward to seeing his improvements on the field and how much he can help guide his team as a locker room leader.

When did you start playing football?

I started playing football around 6 years old.

What is your biggest accomplishment since you started playing?

The way I maintain my body, how I’ve stayed humble and how I have matured as a young man.

How was last season?

I think last season was great, it really showed what I can do and how much I can contribute to a team as a leader.

What are your expectations going into this year?

Just helping my team, trying to bring a championship to East Ascension. Just winning.

Is there anyone you try to model your game after?

As a defensive end, Cameron Jordan. On offense I started watching Terron Armstead, all the LSU o-lineman, Zack Martin, there’s really a lot of people.

What is one thing you would like to improve on most?

Staying low, having a good base the entire game.  Even when I’m tired, I want to be able to give it my all.

What do you do in your free time?

Video games and watch a lot of film.

Do you play any other sports?

When I was younger, I played baseball, but it has pretty much been strictly football.

How have you stayed in shape since the shut down?

Just staying moving around at home. Every morning I’ll go for a little jog and I use anything I can get my hands on around the house to workout.

What has football done for you?

Football has helped me mature; it has helped me keep my grades up as well.

What do you love most about the game?

I love putting people on the ground, making tackles, experiencing pancakes.  I also get to meet new people and enjoy all the experiences that football brings.  It has changed how I view life and certain relationships.  It has taught me brotherhood.

How do you prepare for a game?

Keep my headphones in and listen to music. I try to watch a little film with my fellow lineman before the game and just try to relax myself.

Describe yourself as a player and what kind of teammate you are?

I’m a physical player who prides himself on technique. I try to be a humble leader.

What motivates you to play football?

My family and friends who encourage me. I just want to go out and have fun.

Any advice for younger players?

Work hard, don’t listen to everybody telling you that you can’t do it, focus, stay in the weight room, block out the noise and have fun.
