D.I.T.R: Nathan Gilmore

Nathan Gilmore is a 6’0″ 150 lb Wide Receiver and Outside Linebacker for the Billingsley Bears in Billingsley, AL. Nathan is very physical on both sides of the ball. On offense, he is a great blocker with some good pass catching skills as well. On the other side of the ball, Nathan is a great tackler who is not afraid to take on blocks, and he gives 110% on special teams as well. Last year as a junior, Nathan collected 30 receptions for 346 yards and two touchdowns while only losing one fumble. On defense, Nathan had 85 total tackles and 9 tackles for loss with one sack and 3 deflected passes. Landon is looking to improve for his senior year and hopefully garner an offer from a college football team while doing so.

Can you tell us your name and position on the football team?

Nathan Gilmore, Wide Receiver and Outside Linebacker

What made you decide to play football in high school?

I always had a love for football and wanted to be like my uncle who played football a long time ago.

What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced on the field?

Staying focused and keeping my eye on trying to win the game with my team.

How do you motivate yourself when things get tough during a game?

Every time things get tough during a game I like take a deep breath and say that this moment is worth it in the end.

What do you think sets you apart from other players on your team?

I try to talk everyone up on my team, especially if I see that they are not inclined into the game anymore.

Can you talk about a moment in your football career that you’re particularly proud of?

About 2 years ago, we were playing a rival school and were down 21 points in the first quarter. By never giving up and staying positive our team was able to come back and win the game.

How do you handle the pressure of being an important player on the team?

I have to hold myself accountable for when I make mistakes and try to hold my head up when I do make a mistake.

How do you balance football and your academic studies?

I balance them fairly well and sometimes it gets difficult, but you have to get it done.

What have you learned about teamwork through playing football?

I learned that you cannot just win the game between 1 or 2 players. All players have to work together and everyone has to be on the same page for the team to be successful.

Can you describe your pre-game ritual or superstitions?

I sit in the weight room and listen to music to get my head right. I visualize myself in the game before we play it so it comes easy to me.

Who is your biggest inspiration or role model in the sport of football?

CeeDee Lamb. I watch a lot of his highlights and I am a big Cowboys fan. I like how he never gives up on a play and tries his hardest to catch every pass that comes his way.

How do you stay physically and mentally prepared for each game?

A lot of rest and rehearsing what I have to do on each and every play. Not to mention, practice daily.

What are your goals for the future, both on and off the field?

On the field, I want to play college football and then make it to the NFL. If that doesn’t work out then I want to have a good enough job to support my family.

What advice would you give to young aspiring football players?

Never give up and keep working.

What do you hope to achieve with your football career in the future?

I hope to achieve a certain image and inspiration to people that look up to Nathan Gilmore. I want them to know what a hard working football player I was.
