D.I.T.R: Demarcus Robinson – DB

Demarcus Robinson is a talented defensive back who attends Gentry High School – located in Indianola, Mississippi. Robinson is an athlete who stands at 5’10” 165 pounds, and is in a member of the 2024 class. As a defensive back, Demarcus plays a crucial role on the field for the Gentry Rams. He is an intelligent student-athlete, with a 3.2 GPA in the classroom. On the field, Robinson is known for his quick recognition of plays, and down field presence in the defensive run support. He has a natural ability to read the offense and anticipate their next move, allowing him to make critical plays and prevent opposing offenses offenses from scoring. His quickness and agility make him valuable in both the passing and running game; an athlete that is able to cover a lot of ground to make a tackle from anywhere. I had the opportunity to speak with this Demarcus about his young playing career thus far, as well as plans for the future:

Q: Tell me a little about yourself, where did you grow up and such?

My name is Demarcus Robinson; I grew up in Moorehead, Mississippi. When I was younger my brother and I grew up in the country, and that is really where I found out about football. My grandma had a small TV and we just watched college football and NFL. I fell in love with football when I first saw Marshawn Lynch play. I used to want to play running back, but when I got to middle school my position changed. They put me at defensive back for one game and I never looked back.

Q: When did you start playing football?

At the age of six.

Q: Do you play any sports other than football?

Yes, I play basketball and track. I do 300 hurdles and 4 x 1.

Q: What is one of your favorite aspects about playing the defensive back position?

At the safety spot I like to control the field. I can see anything in front of me, and I like contact. I love contact.

Q: Opposite of that, what is one of the more challenging parts about playing that position?

It would be the mental side of things. You can do good the entire game, and by the third quarter you give up one play and everybody thinks you are the worst- so it the mental side. But I am getting that down, and the speed of the game is slowing down the more I play.

Q: Is there someone who has helped you along the way, and has mentored you either in life or in football?

My Coach, He is one of my biggest inspirations at the defensive back position. He understands where I come from and how hard it is. He understands me, and when I changed from running back to defensive back, he taught me and took me under his wing.

Q: What strengths do you believe you have that can make you an impact athlete?

I can predict. I watch film so much I can see what they are doing through formations and looks. I would also say my intensity and I like to make open field tackles, covering a lot of the field.

Q: How would your teammates describe you?

Smart. Just in general, they would say I am a headhunter, always looking for the tackle or for contact.

Q: What motivates you to become a better football player as you progress in your career?

My brother is my motivation, but something that motivates me everyday is something that my grandmother told me, ‘If you are going to do something, do it to the best of your abilities and try to get better at what you are doing.’ and that always stuck with me.

Q: What are you looking forward to this upcoming season, any specific goals for you?

What I am looking forward to with my team would be making it past the first round, and hopefully going to state and winning the championship. In this spring, I am looking for a lot out of my defensive side of things, as well as offensive side. I expect myself to be way better than last year and my sophomore year. I want more interceptions in the upcoming season as well, because the tackles will come.

Q: What is something you feel like you want to work on specifically this offseason in preparation for your senior year?

My overall speed and footwork as well.

In addition to everything this young athlete can do on the football field and in the classroom, Robinson is a team-first type of player that understands the value of teamwork. In conclusion, Demarcus is a promising young defensive back who is working hard to gain notice from college recruiters. He is known for his run support defense and play recognition on the field, allowing him to thrive in most situations. With Demarcus’ talent and determination, there is no doubt that this athlete will go on to make an impact in the future. He will have one more season in high school football, the class of 2024.
