D.I.T.R.: Brandon Russell

Brandon Russell is a 6’2″ 190 lbs OLB and WR who plays for Westwood High School in Palestine, Texas. Brandon is an athletic kid who is also a good athlete in basketball. Attached below are some of his highlights. Check out our Q&A below!

When do you start playing football? I have been playing since I was 5 or 6 years old. 

What is your favorite thing about playing football? The lessons I learn from the game such as overcoming adversity.

What have you learned the most from your coach? I learned how to stay humble and not get too comfortable with doing the minimum.

What is your favorite football memory? When we played Crockett last year away. It was a good team win, and we all played together.

What sports do you play outside of football? I play basketball and run track.

Who is the player you idolize your game after? Derrick Henry.

What is your favorite NFL team? Tennessee Titans.

Who do you consider to be your role model? My coaches

How do you balance school and football? I stay locked in when it is the right time. Gamedays, I focus on the game and during school, I only focus on school.

How do you prepare for a game? I looked around at my teammates, and made sure that everyone’s locked in. I also play the game through my head over and over again until it’s gametime. 

Who is your favorite artist? J Cole

What is your favorite pre/post-game meal? Chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans.

What is the best aspect of your game? My leadership and positivity. I stay calm under the crisis. 

What separates you from others? My work ethic. I work hard, and I am coachable. 

What is your definition of being a good teammate? Someone who picks up their teammate, and always on time. Saying yes/no sir and yes/no mam is important as well.
