Catholic Wins BIG

On Friday October 11, 2019, the Catholic Bears took on the East Ascension Spartans.  With the field wet and muddy, the players from each team took the field to go fight for their brothers beside them.  Kickoff was upon us and the bears were going to get the ball.  With the first play of the game, Braelen Morgan took the handoff outside the numbers for 38 yards and a first down.  A few plays later, on 3rd down, Morgan took the pitch and ran in for a first drive touchdown.  East Ascension gets the ball now and struggles to move it down the field.  They punt on their opening drive. The next possession for East Ascension, was a very solid drive.  It started off with a screen pass to Steven McBride who broke two tackles and ran for 45 yards. However, the drive ended on 4th down with a pass to the endzone that was called incomplete.  Catholic takes over on downs and the first play of the drive a pass from Jackson Thomas goes for 11 yards.  Morgan then carries for 20 more yards.  That was the end of the first quarter.  After a successful pass on first down for 9 yards, Josh Parker carries the ball for the bears for 43 yards.  The next 3rd down Thomas completes a 3rd and 18 for a 32-yard touchdown to Jalen Toaston.  The next few possessions were punts until late in the second quarter Catholic drives the field and get a field goal before halftime to go up 17-0 at the half.  Early in the third quarter, LC Benjamin takes the handoff and fumbles which is then recovered by East Ascension.  To get back in the game Steven McBride catches a 19 yard touchdown pass to make the game 17-6.  The next drive Catholic responds with a 24 yard field goal to extend the lead to 20-6.  After that it was all Catholic for the rest of the game.  In the fourth quarter Catholic ran for three more touchdowns.  Two of which came from the running back Parker.  One of his touchdowns was a 34 yard rush and the other was a 6 yard rush.  Then quarterback, Blake Mathis ran in a 4 yard touchdown to make the score 41-6.  That would be the final from Memorial Stadium and Catholic comes out with another huge win on the season.  Both teams played their hearts out but for East Ascension, the bears were too much.
