A TOUGH UPSET FOR THE COWBOYS

A TOUGH UPSET FOR THE COWBOYS

This weekend McNeese State faced off against the SF Austin Lumberjacks. The Cowboys came into this game predicted to be the favorite but everyone knew going into this game that there was a lot on the line for both of these teams. Coming into this game the Cowboys had an overall record of 6-2 and were 4-1 in Southland Conference play. On the other side line, the Lumberjacks came into this game with an overall record of 6-3 and were 3-2 in Southland Conference play. Therefore, the pressure was present for both teams to get a win to remain in a good position going into the final stretch of the season. Neither team could put any points on the board in the first quarter of the game but once the second quarter began the points started coming in for both teams. Going into halftime SF Austin had a 14-9 lead over the Cowboys. The Cowboys were unable to put up any points in the third quarter, while the Lumberjacks were able to put up 10. The Cowboys had a good stretch in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to make the comeback. Although the Cowboys did not get the win, they did have some solid production from their offensive playmakers. Junior QB Tyler Bolfing went 21-of-40 for 198 yards and 1 TD. Freshman RB Ryan Ross led the rushing leaders for the Cowboys with 61 yards off of 8 carries. Junior RB Dylan Long led the receiving core for the Cowboys with 58 yards off of 7 receptions and had a touchdown running the ball.

The Cowboys have a very difficult game coming ups this weekend as they travel to Hammond to take on the Southeastern Lions at Strawberry Stadium. The Lions are coming off of a very dominant win over Houston Baptist beating the Huskies 76-7. Therefore, the Lions have a lot more momentum going into this home game against the Cowboys. However, I still believe that if the Cowboys are able to re-group and get back to dominant Cowboy football, then they can get the big win. It will certainly be one of the biggest matchups in the Southland Conference this year. GO COWBOYS!!!!
