A HUGE SOUTHLAND WIN FOR THE COWBOYS

This weekend was a big weekend for the McNeese State Cowboys as they went on the road to take on one of their Southland Conference rivals, the Northwestern State Demons. Coming into this game the Cowboys had a record of 5-2 and were 3-1 in their Southland Conference games. On the other sideline, the Demons came into this game with an even record of 4-4 and also had an even Southland Conference record of 2-2. Therefore, no matter which team you were rooting for, you knew the significance of this game. The Cowboys were able to come out of this game with a huge victory beating the Demons 35-28. It certainly was not an easy win for the Cowboys and the game could have gone any way but the Cowboys performed better overall and came out victorious. Junior QB Tyler Bolfing was the passing leader in this game going 7-of-12 for 103 yards. The passing game helped the Cowboys win but it was their ground game that sealed the victory for the Cowboys. Young Freshman RB Ryan Ross led the rushing leaders in this game for the Cowboys with 93 yards rushing on 13 attempts with 1 TD. Junior RB Dylan Long had an outstanding game as well with 88 yards rushing on 22 attempts with 3 TDs. The Demons just could not find a way to slow down this Cowboys rushing game. Senior WR Jereon McGilvery led the Cowboys receivers with 51 yards off of 3 receptions. The Demons did have a strong 22 point comeback at the end of the game but the Cowboys defense was able to hold them to 28 points in the game to get the win. The Cowboys defense also forced two turnovers and tallied up 6 sacks on the Demons QB.

This certainly marked a big win for the McNeese State Cowboys who’s record has improved to 4-1 in Southland play and 6-2 overall. However, the season certainly is not over and the cowboys have two really big games coming up with SF Austin coming to town next weekend and a really tough road game against the Southeastern Lions the fallowing weekend. I am still a firm believer that the Cowboys will be able to win out the rest of their games and take control of this difficult Southland Conference. GO COWBOYS!!!!
