#6 Carencro captures muddy win over Teurlings Catholic

What football player doesn’t love a wet, soggy, muddy and dirty football game on Friday night? In a game that was delayed a full hour from its 7 PM kick off time due to inclement weather, both tease teams got a good taste for that at Carencro High. A surging Teurlings Catholic team pitted off against the high-power triple option attack of the top-10 Carencro team.

If you love a good defensive slugfest, with two teams trying to feel each other out, then this first half was definitely for you. The TCHS defense was able to hold star running back and ULL commit Kendrell Williams in check for the most part. Both defenses were able to get a plethora of fourth down stops as the score at halftime was 10-7, TCHS up and looking for a huge upset.

Then the offense appeared well into the second half for Carencro and their huge, physical offensive line displayed their dominance. Kendrell Williams would score two short TDs and RB Dontae Darjean would dash to the endzone for a dagger 40-yard TD scamper in the 4th quarter to solidify the win for Carencro, 28-10. The defense really stepped up in the second half and then allow another point, with the talent of senior FS/CB Bailey Despanie (1 INT, 3 PBUs) and the secondary as a whole playing a big part.

The long touchdown pass that served as the turning point in the game, however, came from QB Tavion Faulk in the 3rd quarter. Carencro attempted very few passes all night, and the first one they attempted ended with a wide-open receiver down the sideline practically walking into the end zone, and Carencro would take a 14 to 10 lead. “I think it took them a little by surprise because of our heavy running scheme,” Carencro head coach Tony Courville said after the game. “We wanted to keep the ball on the ground more with the field conditions… We felt good about our game plan coming in.”

It was a very muddy, dirty game as evidenced by the TCHS sidelines. Photo captured by Keith Fell Jr. for LGF.

Big TD run by CHS star RB Kendrell Williams (7). It was called back for a holding call but definitely changed the momentum of the game and would’ve been the biggest play. Video captured by Keith Fell Jr. for LGF.
Biggest play the night, 50 yard touchdown pass for Carencro thrown by Tavion Faulk (9) that placed the win in their grasp. Video captured by Keith Fell Jr. for LGF.
