Head coach Brian Glover started his tenure at East Jefferson last year, becoming the fourth head coach for the Warriors in three years. After a coaching change mid-season in the 2022-23 season, Coach Glover was hired as the man for the job at the end of the season in May. He stepped in coming from Grace King, which was shut down right at the time that this position opened up, and brings along with him 12 years of coaching experience.
The transition was as smooth as it could be with a great staff that I was able to put together. I was able to bring some guys that I had with me at Grace King and we also kept on some guys that were previously at East Jefferson, so you know we have a good mesh of guys, great kids there, and a great administration so it was a smooth first year.

Senior QB Gaven Bester is entering his second season controlling the offense. While the late start and some transfer guidelines spoiled last season for the Warriors, they are looking to step things back up this season and bring fans that dominant feeling again. With many of the team’s best players in their last season this year, the Warriors look to make a playoff run this season and let the seniors leave out of East Jefferson leaving a memorable year behind.
First of all, we have a really senior-led team this year that I’m excited about, we have a lot of guys that are going to get some looks. One guy is Dorrion Hollins, he’s going to get some looks he plays D-end, tight end, and wideout receiver for us. 6’5, his size is going to get people to look at him. He fits the eye test. He’s a great athlete, multiple sport athlete, so we are exicted about him.

Also our running back Paul Jones about 6’1 215. We’re excited to see what he’s going to do this year . He was not able to play last year because he came over from Grace King, so he had to sit out a year, but he’s good to go this season. My quarterback, Gaven Bester. It’s going to be his second year in the offense so we are expecting some good things from him. All-district linebacker Drew Poche, we are expecting some good things from him as well.

While he acknowledged that this team would lean heavily on their impact seniors, when asked about the program’s future, he was excited for a few underclassmen to be able to touch the field this season as well and develop for the upcoming years.
We’ve been challenging some of the young guys to see, who are some of you that are underclassmen that are going to be looking for some playing time and making an impact on the team. We have a Junior Lewis Kimball going to play inside linebacker for us, we’re expecting him to be a pretty good part of our team. Also, another skill guy, Jayden Obiekwe he’s going to play some running back, some receiver, also might play a little DB, he’s kind of a swiss army knife. He’s going to be a junior and we are expecting some good things out of him also.

When discussing the scheduling realignment and the effect it has on the team for this upcoming year, Coach Glover was focused on all games and excited to face the new competition that this year brings to East Jefferson. His response when asked about big games on the schedule this season was the answer that you will get from most successful coaches.
Every one is equally important, so I will say that. Honestly though we try to instill that in our kids, instill that in our program, that we have to treat every game like it’s the biggest one on the schedule. Trying to get them to understand that mindset, not to look ahead, because kids will look ahead. You know because, we have teams in the district that are schools that are right close to us in proximity so they know the kids, they know the guys, and so they are looking forward to playing this team and that team, but I say man that’s not until October. So you try to get them to really concentrate and understand that the next game is the most important one. But we are excited about the schedule. Everyone on the schedule is going to create some good competititon and that’s what I wanted.

The Warriors have started their season 2-1 with a dominant shutout win in week 1 & 3 and a close loss in week 2. Moving forward throughout the season, they look to continue to play this level of football and pull out those down-to-the-wire games.
