#2 Moment of 2022 Season: LSU Wins SEC West

This week, LSU beat writer Jace LeJeune ranks his top five moments of the 2022 season. He will post a moment each day this week from number five all the way to the number one moment of the season, which will be on Friday.

Today, we take a look back at the number two moment of the 2022 season, which turned out to be one of the most surprising moments of the season in the SEC and that was LSU clinching the SEC West.

After only having 39 scholarship players in the bowl game the previous year and with a new head coach in Brian Kelly, there were not a lot of high expectations for the Tigers in 2022. In fact, LSU was picked to finish 5th in the SEC West, but the Tigers defied expectations and had an incredible season.

A year removed from finishing last in the SEC West, the Tigers went from worst to first. The key to the turnaround was an incredible stretch when defeating SEC West foes Ole Miss and Alabama to seize control of first place.

All the Tigers need to do to clinch the division was to beat Arkansas and have Alabama defeat Ole Miss. LSU had its hands full on the road against the Razorbacks, but won in a 13-10 defensive battle thanks to a dominating four sack performance by freshman All-American linebacker Harold Perkins.

LSU took care of business and Alabama did their part by defeating the Ole Miss Rebels 30-24 on the road as well.

Everything worked out for the Tigers as LSU punched their ticket to Atlanta with an 8-2 overall record.

Winning the division is always a goal for the LSU Tigers and doing so in one of the toughest conferences in the country with a new coach has a lot of Tiger football fans excited for the future.

That is why this game was the number two moment of the LSU Tigers’ 2022 season.

Come back tomorrow as Jace reveals the number one moment of the 2022 LSU season.
