In back to back weeks, an Ascension Catholic Bulldog has won our Gridiron Football Player of the Week. After his teammate Christopher Anthens was our Gridiron Football Player of Week 13 last week, it is now running back Trevin Simon’s turn to hold that honor.
Helping his team punch their ticket to the Division IV Select State Championship Game, Simon put on another masterclass of a performance with 33 carries for 369 yards and 6 TDs in a 45-14 semifinal win over Westminster Christian Academy (Opelousas).
“My performance came from my teammates. I knew I could not let them down and we were not going to fall short again.”

This is just another feather to Simon’s cap, who is having one of the most impressive single season performances in Louisiana High School Football history. Consistently having been a Gridiron Football Player of the Week finalist, Simon has broken a lot of records during Ascension Catholic’s deep playoff run. In fact, he passed Leesville RB Xavier Ford for most rushing yards (3,765) and rushing touchdowns (57).
After a season in which the Bulldogs had to replace another standout running back and former Gridiron Football Player of the Week: Chad Elzy, Simon would have never thought that his first season as the leading back would be one like this.
“Honestly, I had no idea this year would go like this. I did not expect to break any records since it was a first-time position.”

Simon got tremendous support from Bulldog nation this week as he received 9,681 votes to win the player of the week award. Because of the season he is having this year, he will also be in the running for the Gridiron Football Player of the Year as well.
“Thank you guys for constantly supporting me all year! It was an honor playing with your sons and family and I couldn’t ask for a better community to back me up.”

Simon also intends to play in the Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game at the end of the year, but before that happens, the Bulldogs have a huge game in the Superdome today as they will take on the Riverside Academy Rebels for the Division IV Select State Championship.
“The key will be playing together and not letting the atmosphere of where the game is being played at to distract you from the real task.”

Simon has received a couple of offers at this point, but he still feels that he is flying under the radar despite being Louisiana’s single season rushing yards and touchdowns leader.
“I think colleges should recruit me because I believe the team’s success is more than individual attributes no matter how good of an athlete I am.”

Trevin Simon would love to finish this storybook ending of a year on top as a state champion.
For winning the Gridiron Football Player of the Week, Trevin Simon will receive a letterman jacket patch that will say “Gridiron Football Player of the Week” and will be in consideration for Gridiron Football Player of the Year.
