By the largest margin of victory this year, Archbishop Hannan High School (Covington, LA) LB Greyson Dupre is the Gridiron Football Player of the Week this time for Week 8.
“It doesn’t show only just my hard work, but also my team because I can’t tackle anybody if my defensive line doesn’t do their job. It’s kind of more like a defensive award like we’re taking it as a whole team thing rather than an individual thing. I am just glad that we are getting our flowers kind of thing.”

Supported by the fans, Dupre had 11,432 votes for player of the week, which was nearly 10,000 votes more than the second-place finisher. After finishing as the runner-up in votes to New Iberia High School (New Iberia, LA) RB/WR Kendrick Jeanlewis in Week 7, the Hannan community was ready to help their star linebacker get the award.
“It just shows how much Hannan loves football. From the people in the locker room to everybody supporting from a distance. Everybody’s really excited when we do well so just giving us the opportunity to vote and have something to be excited for is huge.”

Dupre has been a tackling machine all season long for the Hawks with over 100 tackles and his production continued last week in a 49-28 win over Cohen with 20 total tackles, 2 FFs, 1 PBU, and 1 TFL.
“I feel like I played decent. I’m just trying to play complementary football so I’m trying to do my part just to make sure I’m not letting down my linemen, my safeties, and not letting down the offense so that’s kind of my goal. I am just trying to make sure that I’m not letting anybody down because I’m being selfish or going for tackles or something.”

Dupre’s consistency on Friday nights happens because of his consistency in his preparation every day of the week according to his head coach Steve Soper.
“It’s huge to have a guy like Greyson. It’s not just something that just shows up on Friday. I mean between him bugging me and Coach Kelley about stuff all week long that he sees on film and everything. It’s one of those things. The work that’s done from Sunday through Thursday you know preps him ready for Friday. You know he’s a student of the game. He gets it and it’s one of those things where there are guys across the state. One of the things that really sets Greyson apart is just having a nose for the football, having an understanding of what offenses are doing, and being able to make the right reads. Having that ability to put himself in the right spot, I think it is just a game changer for us as a defense as a whole. The guy just watches more hudl than just about anybody we have on the group.”

“Colleges are getting a steal. Plain and simple. Every coach in the country whether it is high school or college, you want guys that can play ball and are good kids as well. He’s a great guy. He takes care of his business on and off the field. We are definitely a better program with him than without him. Whoever he ends up playing with, that coach will be back because of Greyson Dupre.”

Right now, Dupre has received some college interest, but he is focused on helping the Hawks get to the playoffs as they are currently 3-5 with two games remaining.
“I mean the biggest thing really is just we have the guys just being mentally tough and mentally being there. You have to be really mentally tough and completely bought in because physically, we have the people and the talent. We just need to collectively as a group play as one and once we figure that out, we’ll be playing December 12th.”
