In a Brusly homecoming game they were looking to beat the previously undefeated Donaldsonville and came away with a suffocating defensive win. Donaldsonville would start with the ball at their own 40 yard line. They started off establishing the passing game to receiver Donald Brown who would pick up 3 first downs for Donaldsonville. After this, a few incompletions and a sack by Hunter Bickham and Jaylon Battiste would put Donaldsonville at an important 4th and short that would be converted on a wildcat run by Quinnton Dabney. Donaldsonville would unfortunately be unable to convert another first down and was forced to punt the ball after 3 straight incompletions. On Brusly’s first drive they would begin running the ball with their QB Drake Vincent for 20 yards. This would be the only first down of their drive as 3 incompletions forces Brusly to punt. When Donaldsonville receives the ball they would return to throwing to Donald Brown who gains them a first. In the midst of this passing attack Brusly’s Brayden Ray is able to come up with a big interception after batting the ball in the air at the line of scrimmage. This gave Brusly the momentum for a drive with them picking up 2 quick first downs of a Darion Bennett catch and a Drake Vincent run to close the first quarter.

Brusly would start the 2nd off firing as they connected on a 19 yard touchdown pass to Marion Irving that would put them up 7-0. Donaldsonville would start with good field position in their next drive off a return by Isaac Rodrigue to their 40 yard line. They wouldn’t take advantage of this though as they would throw an interception to Jude Lejeune on their third play of their drive. Brusly would quickly punt the ball right back to Donaldsonville after a big 9 yard sack by Zaylon Phillips that Brusly was unable to recover from. With the ball Donaldsonville struggles to get started and bring out their punt unit but, this would be for a fake punt run play to Jaden Allen who would get a first down. After this though their offensive struggles would continue and they wind up punting for real anyways. Brusly would have a short drive full of incompletions and a penalty that forces them to bring out their punting unit. The punter however would be unable to punt the ball and simply ran out of bounds near the goal line giving Donaldsonville the ball starting in the red zone. With this they would try to run the ball but get careless and fumble the ball off a tackle by Brusly’s Ryland Johnson giving them the ball on their own 7 yard line. With the ball Brusly is able to begin a drive as Robdrick Covington would gain them 33 yards off 2 runs. Alongside this and some passes Brusly is able to get into field goal range with the clock nearly running out on the second quarter. In these last few seconds Brusly kicks the field goal but is short which ends the 2nd at 7-0 Brusly.
Brusly would start the third with the ball and on their first play of the drive fumble the ball which is recovered by Donaldsonville. They, would then get the ball and immediately go 3 and out giving the ball back to Brusly this time at their own 25. Brusly starts their drive off hot with a 20 yard run for Robdrick Covington. In response Donaldsonville’s Zaylon Phillips would get his 2nd sack of the day that would lose 7 yards for Brusly. Brusly would not be stopped though this drive throwing a 37 yard pass to Patrick Gales for a huge gain. They would then follow this up with another 37 yard reception by Gales that would score them 7 putting Brusly up 14-0. Donaldsonville receives the ball and begins by running the ball for a first but, the first time they drop back to pass the ball is intercepted by Ryland Johnson putting the ball back in Brusly’s hands. With the ball though Brusly would simply run the ball a few times wasting up the rest of the 3rd quarter but being forced to punt the ball back to Donaldsonville right before the end of the 3rd.
With Donaldsonville starting with the ball in the 4th Brusly’s defense was suffocating as Melikhi Wilson would pick up a sack. Alongside this they were able to block the eventual Donaldsonville punt giving them the ball at the 16 yard line. Brusly is able to quickly capitalize off a run to Covington that scores a touchdown making the score 21-0 their way. In response, Donaldsonville would turn the ball over on downs off 3 incompletions in a 4 play drive. Their defense would hold up though as Zaylon Phillips would pick up his 3rd sack of the day and force a Brusly punt. With the ball they would pass to Kenzie Little who would gain 32 yards. They would continue the aerial assault with a pass to Donald Brown who would score a 23 yard touchdown making the score 21-7. Brusly kept Donaldsonville to 0 points until the last 5 minutes in the 4th. Speaking of the last 5 minutes Brusly would simply just run this time out and end the game winning 21-7.
I think the entire defense really had an incredible night. All that starting 11 really, they did a good job tonight. And, the offensive line in that second half just coming out and making up their mind that they were gone block and we were gonna end the game.
