DITR: Jack Gilkison, TE/QB, Slaughter Community Charter School

One player that caught our eye during our Gridiron camp is the CO 2027 phenom prospect Jack Gilkison. Jack is a multi-sport and multi-position athlete for the Slaughter Community Charter School Knights. I admire that even with all the time that Jack puts towards sports, he still maintains a 3.6 GPA in the classroom! For Jack’s sophomore season, at quarterback he threw for 10 touchdowns with only 2 interceptions while also catching 2 touchdowns as a tight end. Speaking with Jack, he let us know that he is honing down on the tight end position, but will likely get reps at quarterback if needed this season. With his 6’3 stature running a 5-second flat 40-yard dash, that’s going to be a scary sight for opposing teams!

From what I can tell, I can’t see one bit of selfishness out of him either. When asked what he was working on most for this offseason, he expressed that he wanted to improve his run and pass blocking the most for his running back and quarterback. With his size, speed, and knowledge of the game, he could be one of the offensive gamechangers for the Knights at tight end this season. Jack is an all-around star, and we can’t wait to see what he and the Knights can accomplish on the field this season!

Check out my recent interview with Jack Gilkison below!

“What do you think is the best aspect of your game at tight end?”

“I would say catching/receiving”

“What are you striving to improve before the season begins?”

“blocking”

“What NFL player could you most relate your play style to?”

“The Lions TE, Sam Laporta. I like how he came up from the draft and immediately made big impacts for his team”

“Can you tell me about your player development so far? Which coaches played the biggest role?”

“I would say our outside line backer coach. He was the reason why I got on the field last year”

“What can we expect from you in the upcoming season?”

“I’m striving for 5 touchdonws and 500 receiving yards this season”

“What can we expect from your team this season?”

“I think we are going to make a good run this season. We’re really talented on both sides of the ball.”

“What got you into football, and around when did you start playing?”

” I started playing when I was about 5 years old. My older brother played and my dad coached, so it’s just in our blood.”

“How has your recruiting process been so far? Have any schools reached out to you yet?”

“None yet, so far I have just gone to a lot of camps trying to get my name out there”

“If you could rate yourself out of 10 last season, what grade would you be and why?”

“I would say a 6 at tight end and a 7 at quarterback. Defientely room for improvement this season.”

“What has been your favorite game that you have played in so far?”

” I would have to say the second round playoff game last year vs Sumner High School. The enviroment was crazy and I played pretty well that game.”

“Do you play any other sports? If so, how do they help prepare you for football season?”

“Yes, I’ve been playing Baseball since I was 8 years old. I play catcher. I would say it’s a lot of conditioning especially as a catcher. I’m just in much better shape and get to go through a little more adversity.”

“After your football career, where or what can you see yourself doing?”

“I would like to be a marine biologist.”

“Do you have any family or friends who play college or pro football?”

“My brother played college football for Millsaps college as a safety, but he is graduatiing this year.”
