On the first stop of the 2025 Gridiron Football Spring Tour, we went to Istrouma High School, which is located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Photographer Zach Lafontaine stopped by the Indians’ spring practice to take some action shots. Last season, the Indians had one of their best seasons in quite a long time posting a 9-4 record and making the Division II (Select) Quarterfinals. It was their first Quarterfinal berth in over two decades,
Istrouma enters the 2025 season with a new coach in Brian Glover, who is replacing Sid Edwards as its head coach. Glover, who was recently at East Jefferson High School, is taking over for the current mayor of Baton Rouge. At East Jefferson, Glover led the Warriors to a district championship in 2024, which was their first district title since winning the Class 4A state championship a decade ago back in 2014.
The biggest question mark heading into the season will be trying to replace the production of do everything athlete and playmaker Kyree Paul. Paul, who has signed to play college football at Southeastern Louisiana University, was a 1st Team All-District and All-State selection that ran for 1,365 yards and 14 touchdowns while also returning six kickoff and punt returns for touchdowns while also catching three more scores.
Along with Paul, the Indians will have to replace two Gridiron Football All-Americans in LB Jeremiah Coleman (Southern) and OL Darryon Simmons, but the Indians have plenty of talent to make another deep run this fall.
Some key players to keep an eye on this season are former Gridiron Football Junior High All-American Brayden Jean, RB Carmello Daigre, QB Frank Alexander, WR/CB David Johnson, WR/DB Justin Williams, RB/LB Eric Knox, LB Ryland Cotton, RB/WR Jacob Roberts, and DL Jordan Otis.
