Woodlawn’s Chris Cooper & Tyler Knox Get Invited To Play In 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game

Check out the video of both Woodlawn teammate Chris Cooper and Tyler Knox being invited to the bowl game below!

Just recently, Gridiron Football put on its first Elite Camp of the offseason at Woodlawn High School. There were 82 players in attendance that got the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of coaches and the Gridiron Football staff. Two of the players that impressed just so happened to play at Woodlawn High School in cornerback Tyler Knox and linebacker Chris Cooper.

Both players impressed so much that I got the chance to visit with Woodlawn High School head coach Marcus Randall and both Tyler and Chris to tell them that they have been invited to play in the 2023 Gridiron Football All-American Bowl Game. Both players were shocked when they heard the news.

“It is amazing. First and foremost, I am very thankful for the opportunity and now, I am going to approach it like I am the best one out there.”

“I am grateful. This year, I didn’t play the whole season. From the last game I played to now, I haven’t gotten the chance to work on my cover skills and footwork. That day at the Gridiron camp, I wanted to show everybody what I know.”

Coach Randall feels that both Tyler and Chris have a chance to play at the next level while being two of the top players for the Woodlawn Panthers this upcoming season.

He is also grateful to Gridiron Football for allowing two players that are flying under the radar entering the 2023 season to get their name out there on a more frequent basis.

“I think both of these guys did a great job last season. They are at a point where they are trying to get their notoriety up and going to camps like the Gridiron Camp and some other camps that will be going on this spring and during the summer. It will help them get the exposure that they are looking for. If they show what they showed this past Saturday, the sky is the limit for them.”

“I am very grateful for Gridiron recognizing these guys. They are leaders for us as upcoming seniors and will be filling in for a big senior class that just left. For these guys to start off the spring and earn these kinds of honors, this is what we will be looking for as we keep progressing through the spring, summer, and obviously into the 2023 football season.”

Tyler Knox got the invitation to participate in the Bowl Game based on his great performance at the competition part of the camp in which he had multiple interceptions showcasing his biggest asset to his game.

“Right now, his ball skills are what sticks out most just like what you saw at the camp. He is able to highpoint the football and that attest to his basketball skills.”

“You can see the physicality. He split time last year as a cornerback and started some games, but I think this year, he will be one of those guys that can move around based on his versatility, being able to tackle, being able to cover, and also play the ball. You will also get the chance to see him play some offense as well and even in the kick return game.”

Meanwhile, Chris Cooper had a great showcase at the combine having impressive times in the 40 yard dash and the shuttle run, but his coverage skills also showed why he is one of the more athletic linebackers in the Baton Rouge area.

“I think Chris is one of the best linebackers in the state. I have been going through it and as we have gone through the Gridiron database and just looking around, I only saw two linebackers that are at his caliber. He can play with the spread offenses and can cover but can also play like the old school linebackers as well. If you look at his highlight tapes, he has plenty of film even though he missed a lot of games last year, but in the games he played in, you see him stuffing the run in the middle and you can see his lateral speed from sideline to sideline in running defenders down. In my mind, he is one of the best linebackers in the state and as we progress this spring, I can see him become one of the best linebackers in the country.”

The Woodlawn teammates are two of the four players so far from the previous camp that have been offered to play in the 2023 Gridiron Football senior All-American Bowl Game joining Covington running back Justin Chatman and Parkview Baptist defensive back Mason Warren.

If you are a player that is between 7th and 12th grade that wants to put themselves on the Gridiron Football radar, make sure to register for one of our upcoming camps that you can find below.
