ULM Wins Homecoming Game vs Texas State

Louisiana Monroe had their homecoming game against the Texas State bobcats in Monroe, LA that proved to be a great game to everyone who attended and was a good way to end homecoming week for ULM. One noticeable difference in this game for was Warhawks was that throughout most of the game, they were without their starting quarterback Garrett Smith, who got injured in the second quarter and did not return for the remainder of the game.

Enter backup quarterback Will Collins, a freshman who came off the bench who help his team onto a 40-34 win over Texas State in a great win for the warhawk fans. The warhawks scored early in the first quarter when a field goal was made a few minutes into the game. The bobcat quickly replied with a touchdown more than a minute later. Ben Luckett for ULM ran in a touchdown to put the warhawks ahead again, but that lead was snapped when at the end of the quarter Tyler Jones of Texas State ran the ball in for a score.

The first quarter showed back and forth play by both teams. Then when the second quarter began was when Smith had an injury which put Collins in the game. He would help the Warhawks score 23 unanswered points in the second quarter, some of those came from touchdown passes from Collins, one score was made from Luckett, and a field goal was made as well. ULM mad gained momentum in the second quarter that had fans fired up at halftime.

In the third quarter some pressure from the defense caused Collins to throw an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The warhawks answered that play later in the quarter when Duke Carter of ULM ran in a 9 yard touchdown to put the warhawks ahead by over 20 points.

Texas State would gain some momentum in the fourth quarter, scoring two touchdowns with one being from a turnover. That effort was not enough for the bobcats to overcome the warhawks which led ULM to win the game and bring home a conference win. ULM travels to New Mexico next week and then closes the month against Arkansas State.
