Tulane Athletics Participates in Extra Yards for Teachers Initiative

NEW ORLEANS – In celebration of the Extra Yards for Teachers initiative with the College Football Playoff Foundation, Tulane Athletics and the American Athletic Conference are partnering to give $10,000 back to the Greater New Orleans community through Donors Choose as a way to say thank you for the hard work of all educational professionals.

Schools throughout the New Orleans community are encouraged to visit DonorsChoose.org to create an account and a project for their school. Over the next few months, Tulane Athletics will work with the American Conference to select area schools to receive funds to support their Donor Choose projects.  In addition to the $10,000 donation, one New Orleans area teacher will win an additional $500 gift card that can be used to benefit a project at that teacher’s school.

To kick off the initiative, Tulane Athletics will honor teachers from the New Orleans area and recognize them on the field as a part of Teacher Appreciation Day during the Oct. 21 football game against USF.

“This initiative is a wonderful opportunity to show our appreciation for the tireless work of teachers in our community and give support to help enhance their efforts in the classroom. We are proud to partner with the American Athletic Conference to support education in our community,” said Jana Woodson, Associate Athletics Director, External Relations at Tulane.

To learn more about Teacher Appreciation Day and to nominate a teacher to be recognized during the Oct. 21 USF game, please reach out to Tony Margherio, Director, Marketing at Tulane, at 504-247-1243or am******@tu****.edu.
