NEW ORLEANS – Senior running back Dontrell Hilliard was named the Louisiana Sportswriters Association’s Offensive Player of the Week after running for 175 yards and four touchdowns to lead Tulane to a 62-28 win over Tulsa last week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Hilliard totaled a career-high 175 yards on 19 carries and found the end zone a career-high four times. He scored the Green Wave’s first two touchdowns en route to Tulane scoring the most points in a conference game since 1997, and accumulating the most rushing yards (488) by a Tulane team since 1944. His four rushing touchdowns marked the first time a Tulane player ran for four scores since André Anderson did so vs. McNeese on Sept. 26, 2009.
The Baton Rouge, La., native put up his third consecutive 100-yard performance and the eighth of his career, moving him into sole possession of sixth place in school history in career 100-yard rushing games. He now sits sixth on the school’s career rushing yards list with 2,374 career yards.
Hilliard is the second Tulane player to earn an LSWA weekly award this season. Junior quarterback Jonathan Banks was named the LSWA Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5.
The Green Wave travels to Miami, Fla., on Saturday, Oct. 14 to take on non-conference foe FIU. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on CUSA.tv.
